i went for trinity. i choose it because i was told it is the best for networking if you want to get involved. its probably the most conservative of the bunch. its good if you want to create ties to people who can help you in the future.

on that note, i've never done any of the meet and greet stuff, or any of the alumni dinners or anything. i'm lucky if i make it to class. but the registars office has been very helpful, even with things outside their jurisdiction. i'm not religious at all, and its never been an issue

some colleges are more involved with extra-curricular stuff. if you plan on getting involved as well, its a consideration.

There is no such thing as a religious college anymore at U of T, the colleges keep some of the fundamental traditions (like girls on one floor and guys on another) but other than that there is no focus on religion what so ever. For example, I'm Orthodox and my roommate is Muslim, yet we both are in St. Michael's which is a Catholic college. Honestly I think I only know like 2 or 3 Catholics in this whole college.

So far (I'm first year) my experience has been very positive and the staff have been helpful so I do recommend them, plus if you care for tradition it is one of the three original colleges to join up for U of T, Trinity and Victoria being the other two.

Your college selection can also be based on your course location, if you have an idea of where your courses will be (give me some course codes and I'll look up this year's locations). For example: I'm in Commerce, and most of my courses are on the west side around St. George St. and Spadina while St. Mike's residence is on the far east side (Bay St.). So location can matter if you don't like walking.

In terms of residence I believe St. Michael's and Trinity (not sure about this one, but I know there are two colleges like this) that have guys on one floor and girls on another.

Also if you're looking for a VERY close-knit highschool sort of feel then go join Trinity, they have something like only 500 students in total.

For social events/parties every college has its fair share of them, some happen to be more of a private nature than others, but all have the large public ones as well.

All in all colleges are there to help out with some scolarships and handle any of your academic/financial issues and concerns. And your choice of college has absolutely 0 effect on the education (not accounting for parties ).

Oh, one more thing: it seems that many Commerce students go to Woodsworth (it's where the Commerce office is) and a lot of engineers go to New College.

My suggestion goes to St. Michael's.

Hope this helps, feel free to PM me and I'll try my best to help out.

Yeah for Commerce, unless you have some tradition thing or respect for a certain college, then definetely go to Woodsworth (it handles all things Commerce and has the Commerce office in its buildings too).

If you're going into Commerce, go to Woodsworth. It is not only for part time and mature students. It was in the past, but not anymore. The Commerce department is closely related to Woodsworth. A lot Commerce classes are actually in the basement of Woodsworth residence.

Don't pick an education based on who's closest to a subway. Choose what you want to do in life, and educate the best way possible to achive your goals, no matter where it's located.

As stated before by several of us, the colleges and their locations do not influence your ability to pick courses or education.

Those are second-year and above classes for the most part, first years get stuck with running around from Isabel Theater (Economics) to Lash Miller Chemical Labs (math); both of which are virtually on opposite sides of the campus, so as I said in previous post, know that you will be walking a lot and try not to have 1 class after the other when the buildings are so far apart.

Ok, I guess I'm going to have to save another soul.

Do not go to UofT Commerce & Finance. I am IN UofT Commerce & Finance 4th year. Do you know what you want to do? Accounting, marketing, HR, Finance? If you actually want to do Finance, for the love of God do not come here. I kid you not, just don't.

UofT has a TERRIBLE reputation for Finance. My friend's sister works at Merrill Lynch and Merrill workers were told this year NOT to give out cards at the infosession as they weren't hiring much and Morgan Stanley came and told 100 people that they were going to hire 2 undergraduates in Canada this year and they were most likely going to be from Ivey.

I can tell you right now, that I probably know about more financial instruments and workings of the financial markets than your Ivey or Queen's student with an i-banking or sales and trading job. However, they do not like recruiting at UofT, based on precedence (because if you've done it once, and it went well.. probably won't go wrong next time you hire from Ivey or Queens) (It's terrible logic, but it works in a way). THEY DO NOT LIKE HIRING FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO.

THis is also due to the demographics as the University of Toronto is host to many immigrants or FOBS or what not (I don't care how politically correct you are, this IS the case if you see a name like xiao xiao.. versus robert robertson, you're going to pick the latter). (I am chinese, but born here in Canada). This is going to change your life, this post. I kid you not. GO TO IVEY OR QUEENS FOR BUSINESS. Their alumni network is 60000x stronger. We barely have one here at UofT!!!

If you want to go into accounting, UofT is fine. However, I would suggest schulich over UofT for accounting too. I hate to bash my own school, but I made a mistake and thought I could party while school. It is simply not the case. This has been my nightmare for 4 years. i don't care what it takes, just don't come here. It's NOT WORTH IT. If you want further proof, we had professors from other schools audit the commerce program and there is a report out. It is scathing. It basically says you people at UofT are tards. WHy? Because you're in downtown toronto and can't run a fucking commerce program. I will send you the link if you want.

For the love of god dont throw your life away.

I can agree that Ivey's HBA program and Queens Commerce are really good programs (probably the best in the country).

HOWEVER once you're out of school and have 3 or 4 years of solid, successful work experience your Alma Mater isn't that big of a factor. The longer you're out of school - the less your schooling influences hiring.

But there is no way i can relocate.
First i cant afford residence and second i cant leave my gf.
So i only can choose between ryerson, uoft and schulich plus i have doubts about getting into schulich (i am gonna try hard though)
So do u think ryerson is a reasonable choice compared to uoft?
And u asked what i ant to do. I want to do marketing or finance.

Ryerson is a good option (not the only one) for Management, Marketing or HR (maybe even accounting - since accreditation is done outside of any university). UoT might be considered to be better for Economics or Finance.

Ryerson has invested significantly in their business program (more than UoT) over the last 5 years and has a brand new building for Commerce students.

The only thing that Ryerson lacks is a broad Alumni network (which primarily impacts university funds (donations) and Ryerson has been able to make up for this with corporate sponsorship).
