There was talk (source was from maybe a month ago) about possibly having lightscribe media that could produce different colors out for the winter holiday season.

Regardless, lightscribe may be something useful for demo cds if the cost is prohibitively high for sorting all CDs.

I should look at getting printable CDs...

Edit: Those that print w/ inkjets directly on CDs- have you had any problems with the ink smearing if it gets wet? (anyone want to try?)

Also, which printer(s) do you all have? The only 'consumer' level printers I've found were Epson Stylus R220/300/800 that supported the CD printing. Would like to know if there are more of them out there.

If you look around you can get em for about 40 cents per disc, still more expensive but I thought it was worth it.

I have a lightscribe drive, although I've never used it. You have to buy cds that work for the drive, kind of gay but understandable.

Got my printer today, the result is really awesome
After I printed the cd's, I used some colour protection spray, now the cd's are a bit glossy

Looks nice. I'm assuming the color protection stuff is to prevent the CD from smearing if it gets wet and all?

What type of printer do you have? I'm marginally interested in acquiring one for myself. =)

I've never used that colour spray stuff... and if mine do get wet they DEFINATELY smudge.

Where did you find the Canon printer? When I looked the only CD printers I could find were Epson's.

I looked a few days ago and all I found were Epson (and perhaps the occasional HP.

The Canon printer seems to not be sold within the US, but this is unconfirmed.

Yup, that was my assumption as well.

I'm now on my second Epson in 2 years, the first one just got to the point where it wouldn't pull in the CD tray anymore.

The better ones seem to use the same mechanisms, the just add features like a screen, etc. So if you don't care about that stuff, just get the R220 for $99.

It's too bad there aren't really any other options in the states anymore. There are a few "termal" units, but they suck (bad resolution, only a few colors). The Epsons print nicely, I just wish they were more durable.
