Live's built in vocoder is the best sounding software vocoder I have heard, and its integrated very nicely. The one that comes with CM magazine is the same as the one that comes with Fruity L, that one sounds nice too. Vokator is decent, but, I found myself fiddling around with the interface far too long to achieve any substantial results. Live's vocoder sounds nice, even with the built in carrier.

The intro of a track I never finished, the first part [before the beat] is all vocoder stuff. :P I like using them as modulators, but vocoders always hog the shit out of the CPU.

I think that Vibrasphere has used the vocoder to form "their sound". It's the closest I can get to figure out how they've made some sounds. Listen to Landmark for example.
Great way to explore sounds
I remember an old track from Röyksopp i think where i had a vocoder over a drumbeat. I experimented with it but like with everything else...nothing happened.
