How in god’s name are we supposed to know what’s a lie and what isn’t? For every negative commercial, there’s a rebuttal. I don’t follow all the local politicians so closely that I would even know what to believe and what not to believe (and I think that goes the same for the average citizen), so I’m not voting. The whole idea of the campaign where they just supposedly call each other out is pissing me off.

In all honesty, this is worse than being a terrorist. Every time someone doesn't vote, the people in power become more powerful. Regardless of what you think, voting, especially in local and state elections (Congress and senate included), your vote does matter. Politicians effect your life, and how you live. Senators vote whether we can go to war, state legislators can vote whether or not your taxes are raised or lowered. You NEED to get informed about your politicians and VOTE. Or else you might as well move to North Korea and find out what it's like not to have a say in the government.

The need to be informed is key. If you are not informed then democracy is beter served by not voting. I would rather the voter turn out be 10% but those 10% be people who are well informed on policts, economics, world affairs, and the candidates rather then 80% turn out with most of them knowing nothing more then what they heard on TV.

moral hazard officially wins this thread
i've long been a supporter of the school of thought where you should only vote if well informed
4 years ago, technically i could have voted
would've voted against bush, but in my town wouldn't have made a shred of difference, and i didn't know jack shit about anything else, so instead of being a dick and voting democrat across the board, i didn't vote
this year i've been following local races closely, now all the referrendums on the ballot, and know who i'm voting for, so yes i'm going to vote

while i think that everyone should vote, they should only do so if informed about the issues

Its called being an educated citizen and knowing how our govt works.
For example, if a Dem or a Rep(Pres) tells you, elect me and ill give you tax cuts etc.. If you ask yourself, can a president do that? No! he can propose the plan, but it will need to be ratified/approved by congress so that law can take place. I laugh at congress saying they are sick of the war and how they want us out of there, so if you are an educated citizen why dont you stand up and say id you are sick of it why dosent congress stop the finance of this war? No money=no war. After all, they keep approving more and more money for the war.

That is what most Americans lack, when they elect someone they think they are going to do w.e they want.

In these upcoming elections, it seems that the Dems are taking back congress.. lets suppose a Rep wins the presidential elections afterwards, trust me its going to be hard for him to do his work cause the dems are going to make his life a living hell, this applies vice versa is the a dem wins and you have a majority or Reps.

Dont vote, I dont want to be a dick, since politicians know that people raging your age dont vote, thcan care less about politics they can give three shyts about the upcoming future of America... ill tell you if people your age start exercising a right that is not practiced in Cuba, N Korea etc. You/we will have tremendous power in this country, college tuitions are going up, if we had power we would have this issue in their agenda
