whatever, the majority of the tracks in that tracklist are trance tunes. just like deep dish doesn't play all house tracks but they're considered house djs. |
whatever. you mostly talk shit, that doesn't necessarily make you shit does it?

That might be one of the worst analogies ever.

no problem. i know what you mean, people bash tiesto blindly (err, deafly) without actually listening to his sets, and then they act surprised to see he's doing some things lately in his sets that deserve respect. of course tiesto has always mixed in non trance tunes for atleast the past 4 years, like prog house and techno, but what's different about 2006 is he's mixing in electro house, house, minimal house. im not sure which way to look at it: is it that this year really stands from any before, in that he's mixing in things you would never guess could be in a trance set, whereas in years before when you saw prog house or techno tunes in the tracklist you wouldn't be as shocked. or is that he's just doing what he's always been doing for many years now, mixing in house and whatever else is popular at the time that is not trance, in this case the popular non trance thing just happens to be electro house and minimal house.
when tiesto was mixing in prog house and techno years ago, was it as much of a shock to people?

In complete agreement there Stevesto
I'd say that there was similar shock, horror when in 2002 it was ultimately clear that the Magik trance sound had disappeared, and been replaced with some techno like Taub, Futurescope, Chemical Bros, Vitalic etc.
But this is definitely the most diverse the playlist choices have been since then imo.
I can see some of the stranger tracks being done because they are popular atm (Marc Houle falls into that category!) such as Dave Spoon - At Night. Which DJ or DJ' Dog hasn't spun that at some point this summer?
While the electro-house can be explained because its trendy/popular... i'll think we'll both have a harder time explaining something like The Form Breaker - Clix being played for the same reasons...
I guess its a bit of both Tijs finaly have some room to experiment and also the decision to play something popular outside of the usual perimeters.
