Research, printing, shipping, salaries, gas, hydro...makes you wonder.

Well obviously it mustn't outweigh the potential losses from the counterfeit money or they would likely leave them out for a while longer.

EDIT:

Personally, I was expecting them to make a new 5 a long time ago when they discovered how easy it was to counterfeit the old new 10.

because of all these ... I avoid paying cash anywhere, and well getting all the does loonies and twoonies... I just hate caring change ... debit and Credit card I find is the way to go

Managed a busy store downtown (Bloor/Spadina) and I swear that 10% of the $5.00 bills were fake. They usually feel a bit softer and are about 4mm shorter. Hold one against a real one and you'll see what I mean.
