I have the STR8-60's (... im saving up for some pdx2000's) and they have the str8 tonearm, and I've NEVER heard any ware on my records, and I play them alot, cause I dont have that many . if you dont max out your counter-weight, which is not neccessary unless you're doing some insane scratching or somehting, then the ware on records should be fine. and people say there's worse sound quality with str8's, but you can't hear it, unless you have some insane $2000 mixer that can preserve sound quality perfectly from your TT. Go for the stantons if they're accessible and on sale. never had any problems with mine.

well, I'm also about to buy TT's. And I cant decide between Gemini pt2100/2400 and Stanton str8-80. The reason is the same: straight tone arm.
Stanton has more quality, on the other hand straight tone arm. I talked to many ppl, most of them told me that it's not a big deal. So I think, I'm gonna buy Stanton str8-80.

btw, what bout the new str8-90? does any1 know anything about them?

didnt know the STR8-90's are out... maybe you are thinking of the STR8-100's? i'll have to look into this.

anyhow, smart choice on the stanton... i hate to dis on a brand, but gemini falls in the JuNkBuCkEt in mah book :P

ive used a few of stanton's tables and like them. I also use thier RM3S mixer, and it's TIGHT for a cheapie mixer!

@MERiDiAN5i2 - Totally I Agree With You, A Friend Keeps Tellin' Me Gemini Are One Of The Top Brands, But I Don't Like Them One Bit.

hmm have u guys used any of the gemini tables?... i have used the pt2400 and sa2400 and find them to be pretty good... good torque(2.2kg) solid platter, and has tons of option...i have also used tech 1200's and comparing them i cant see y no one would consider the gemini pt2400 or sa2400 ( so much cheaper then tech and has better torque) but i must admit that the platter of techs is what stands out the most but thos two gemini models are almost as solid as the techs(platter wise).... havent used stantons yet but everyone i have spoken to like them a lot... some even more then techs.
and yes.. gemini mixers... most of them are piece of shits! =)

well, IMHO, the reason to get technics is because they are standard.

if your gonna play out at clubs/parties.. you will probably be spinning on 1200's... so owning these tables and being very used to them is quite important.

true..... but i really think that vestax or the stanton st100 series will soon become standard. dont get me wrong,i love TECHNICS... but IMO i think there are great low budget tables out there that can be compared to techs and pass with fly'n colors =) oh and another thing is that it wasnt hard for me to adjust to techs after playing on geminiSA2400's
