Guys just wanted to add, that even if the US using only 5% of IT'S oil from Iraq, its the global oil market that we're talking about.
The amount of oil sold to other countries affects the price that the US will pay for its oil which is why they're interested in oil all over the world even though naturally take more oil from places closer to them ie canada and mexico.

The US won't, but US corporations will. The contracts to "rebuild Iraq" - ie. it's oil production - are massive, and they're going to the Bush administration's staunchest supporters.

Also, you have to consider the US-Israel relationship. Israel is the only true US ally in the region, and plays a huge part in US policy. Having US-friendly (and thus anti-Palestinian) leadership in Iraq - perhaps the key state of the middle east - would be a godsend for them.

Of course, given the chance, Iraqis are going to vote *against* an explicitly US-friendly government. So the US vision of "democracy" in this case needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
