Stop living in the past ffs.

btw, get his 30 min set from the yacht party.. too much fun.

BT used it first

And in any case, I'm sure when they say he's following a trend they mean in his music.

No, its actually one of the best sets from him this year...that doesnt say much considering his boring slump in the first half of this year, but it has some really, really fresh tunes.

Nobody else is playing the stuff he is right now, the way he is, so while he may have been sucked into the electro bandwagon in 04/05, now he has a new sound and it goes from minimal to prog to tech to techno. Yes he borrows alot from other people but I have yet to find a set from anywhere else that is as smooth and well constructed as his three hour dortmund effort...

Tracks like:

Mark August - Warm
Gus Gus - Mallflowers
Micali & Ajami - Wish I Loved You
Catwash - Mohake Dreams
Joel Mull - Begun the End Has
Claude Von Stroke - The Whistler (Audiofly Remix)

are all sick imo. The good sick!

Nice track. It reminds me of Shapeshifters - Lola's Theme (Eric Prydz Remix)

That gives me an idea.

You guys are too rough on him, Sasha will set the trends again once he's fully mastered his new set-up, Ableton is the change he needed to bring around a new Era, and he will do it Im sure of it!

This dude has been Djing since the 80s, he'll continue pwnzing, trust me.

IMO its not really a question of him setting trends or following them...because as of now, he is not following any...he plays the music he wants, exactly how he wants...and thats that. Some people will always love it, and some people will invariably not, but in the end I think hes pretty true to himself. You are right about ableton, and I think he is still far from using it perfectly, but he is getting close. If you guys (and I know Alex read it) read Blake Jarrel's report on Sasha ableton setup, you will see that he has it tailored to his needs and his team are getting closer and closer to a setup that really allows him to do exactly what he wants.

In light of the above I'd like to state for the record that yes I am a complete nerd and I think about Sasha's manner of performing way too much...

+many to all of that.

If I ever won the lottery, the first thing I'd do is hire like 5 music/tech geeks to help me build a setup that did EXACTLY what I wanted it to, without being excessive.

I'd imagine any DJ would want to do that once they are as established as someone like Sasha. If you have the power to consistently use a setup that is made for you, and only you...why not?

For an idea, check the Dortmund set. He wants absolutely seamless, smooth mixing, and he acheives that consistently with his ableton setup. He wants the ability to put tracks together the way he sees fit, instead of having to make the tracks work with each other as they are.

If you read reviews of good sasha sets, you'll hear alot of people say that the set is more like one big long ride, than a bunch of tracks played one after the other, and I think that is what he wants.

fatty +1, sasha's mixing is what makes his tracks insanely good (along with the TL of course). i've heard times when he's bumpin a sick track, then mixes in like 4 other songs and 15 mins later your still hearin that first track in the backround. idk hard to explain, but mindblowing
