You guys are too rough on him, Sasha will set the trends again once he's fully mastered his new set-up, Ableton is the change he needed to bring around a new Era, and he will do it Im sure of it!
This dude has been Djing since the 80s, he'll continue pwnzing, trust me. |
IMO its not really a question of him setting trends or following them...because as of now, he is not following any...he plays the music he wants, exactly how he wants...and thats that. Some people will always love it, and some people will invariably not, but in the end I think hes pretty true to himself. You are right about ableton, and I think he is still far from using it perfectly, but he is getting close. If you guys (and I know Alex read it) read Blake Jarrel's report on Sasha ableton setup, you will see that he has it tailored to his needs and his team are getting closer and closer to a setup that really allows him to do exactly what he wants.
In light of the above I'd like to state for the record that yes I am a complete nerd and I think about Sasha's manner of performing way too much...

For an idea, check the Dortmund set. He wants absolutely seamless, smooth mixing, and he acheives that consistently with his ableton setup. He wants the ability to put tracks together the way he sees fit, instead of having to make the tracks work with each other as they are.
If you read reviews of good sasha sets, you'll hear alot of people say that the set is more like one big long ride, than a bunch of tracks played one after the other, and I think that is what he wants. |
fatty +1, sasha's mixing is what makes his tracks insanely good (along with the TL of course). i've heard times when he's bumpin a sick track, then mixes in like 4 other songs and 15 mins later your still hearin that first track in the backround. idk hard to explain, but mindblowing
