so, i've been messing with impOSCar a lot, by god did this tutorial help !
anyway, one thing that i dont like is how the velocity is controling the volume or the filter cutoff or somthing....
is there a way to make it so the velocity on my keyboard/midi notes has no effect on the synth?
also, i still dont understand how the synth works...and im not sure how to explain this....but, sometimes , i'll play notes in the lower octave, and they will be REALLY loud, then i go play a riff up in the higher octaves, and they will be hardly audible...
anyway, back to the drawingboard...

For the bass note being really loud - this depends on where the cutoff point is, how much resonance you have and where you have set the keyfollow.
Resonance will increase the amplitude of the frequency on and around the cutoff point and it can really amplify that sound like you wouldn't believe. I find it ear shattering if I turn up the resonance past half way with the filter separation on 0.
First port of call is to move the keyfollow down if you are playing in low octave ranges. You wont catch a resonant peak on a bass harmonic then.
If that doesn't solve the problem you need to completely rework your filter settings, either by moving the cutoff up or down and/or lower the resonance.
Alternatively, you can increase Filter separation. This really takes the edge off filter resonance and makes the filter sound a little bit more like a moog filter.
As for velocity sensitivity - this is a good thing! I don't have a keyboard so I don't know how to disable it (not sure I would want to though).
The filter is super powerful and designed to be that way. Thats why its so good. You should hear acid lines on this beast. Whoah...

Hey Derivative we should get a trance production thread going at SA, what do you think? |
You should go for it, some goon-trance action in ML would be fun.
