How'd it go? not too well for me. I didnt have enough music for that crowd's interests. Yes they were a top 40 / crowd
So I had lots of stuff, but I had just prepared it 2 days before because I did not know up until that point.. I picked a whole bundle of cds for that kinda music, but you also have to know what you have and where it is for that. People were making requests and I either couldn't find it, or I didn't have it. Out of my records I ended up playing ntrance staying alive a lot (one i introduced to them), and then some nelly furtado and justin timberlake, etc. I had to play the same songs over and over, and thank god I brought CDs
In between that I didn't get to mix a lot. I had to switch my music type so much and get people dancing that I really just radio dj'd it.
The owner told me that It seems like everyone liked my music but that he suggested I bring better speakers next time. I dont think I should have to provide speakers anyways.
I got people dancing for a couple of songs but I lost them too quickly. How'd it go? I ran the crowd out before 1:30, but I still stayed until 3 and played whatever the hell I wanted, and actually did some mixing and had fun.
I have learned that the idea of a DJ in this area where I live is a guy that has the pa system and the music. That club had told me that they have a DJ every week, but they usually just bring a laptop and plug it up to a system and play one song right after another, not particurally keeping up the beat (illegal MP3s at that).
I got paid though

I wouldn't play a gig if I was expected to bring my own audio equipment.

At least you got some good experience. Experience is worth it's weight in gold for a DJ.
