Haven't really had the time to listen to so much new stuff like i used to have, but personally i sadly feel stuck in the past when it comes to EDM. Most of the minimal tracks doesnt grab me, and i won't even mention how dull all those paedophile tracks sound to me. I know both prog and breaks are pretty much in the background as it is, so i guess i just have to dig deeper.
I guess i need to give the new music some more time as well, at first i thought Diggers Transitions was boring, and when i listen to it now i think it's anything but.
I've also found some new good rock bands this year though, which i'm very glad for

My new obsessions this year; Tech House, Electro, Minimal. And these genres seemed to be unstoppable this year!

2006 was the year I stopped caring. I think I might be starting to lose my interest in electronic music, maybe it's just a lack of time and patience to search through lots of piles of shit to find those rare golden recordings.

I don't have a clue on whether this has been a good year or not, because I couldn't keep up.

Been listening to EVERYTHING really. Irish Folk Music, Progressive House, Uplifting (Modern) Trance, Cajun, Melodic Metal, Drum & Bass, UK Garage / 2 Step, Breakbeat, etc. The list goes on. A few years ago I was almost solely listening to trance, in all its forms, so I guess you could say my strong feelings toward trance have been fading lately, I can dig most stuff though.

So, it's like this then?

1. Hear trance, be amazed, delve into the genre.
2. Get bored, move to other genres and rape them.
3. Get bored of EDM completely and start listening to rock (again).

That's a pretty crappy lifecycle

I think 2006 has only gotten better as it's gone on and right now I am absolutely FLOODED with fresh new shit! It's brilliant I feel like I've grown so much as a Dj this year and will be working fucking hard next year. Next year is the year of production for me and am going to be working like a madman to get some of my crazy thoughts and ideas down

Thanks for the continued support from people on here who take the time to download the mixes in the DJ Promotion Forum! In terms of TA this forum has grown immensely not only because of new(or renewed) interest in the forum but also because the quality of the mixes being presented in the forum has been high all over the board. All that practice has been paying off for these DJs! The activity in that forum has absolutely skyrocketed and has become super active with FUCKING good mixes in there all the time from every style.

2006, fuck yea!

You listen to a genre for a while, you eventually get bored of it (Unless that specific genre is having a really good period, and good stuff are being spit out constantly), so you listen to something else for a while, and eventually come back to whatever you were listening to before. Not necessarily, but you mostly get bored of some type of music at some point, and you just need a break.

I don't want to stray too far off topic here, but I think in order to keep the music as a whole alive for yourself, you need to go out an exprience it from time to time. Staying in and simply listening and looking for tracks can get boring and I think allows you to lose interest faster. But if you go out and actually experience them in the environment they were meant for and enjoy it with other people, it helps keep a genre or the music in general fresh. I suppose this is why dj's usually tend to play the same style(s) throughout their career because of the reaction they get from the people and the reaction they get from themselves playing it for the people.

Keep An eye on the following people next year ( IMO )

Aurosonic - Quality progressive , missing you is an example of their many quality releases this year

Kamil Polner - Uplifting trance at its best !

Dirty South - I love their sound , electro / party house !

DJ shah - Good producer .

Alex Monakhov - Very Melodic progressive trance , defines the coldharbour sound in my opinion. feel lonely is one of my favorite tracks of the year !

Blake Jarell - Very Talented producer , love his work , and his sets are also very interesting , the flow is very smooth and well structured !

Richard Durand - I love his tribal / tech sound , its fresh and very in your face .

Cosmic Gate - Duo of the year without a doubt ! Their come back was massive , i expect big things from these 2 ~ !

Above & Beyond - If they have just produced cant sleep and didnt do anything else this year , that would be enough for me !

Bart Claeseen - I like the techy treatment he does to his style .

To Name a few .....

just so u know, dirty south is one person

anywayyyy....i have really hated this massive rise in cheesy electro tunes this year (dunno about you guys but it has become immensely popular in aus) and their hasnt been that much happening in terms of trance, if it werent for above and beyond, bt and svd the music this year for trance would have sucked...
