My Christmas Email
I sent this out yesterday, some of you were on the distribution list but for those that weren't, here it is....
I don’t even know where to start this year. No doubt I will end up in tears whilst writing this but that’s ok – I am in the office alone so I can get away with it.
So much to mention, this year has been jam-packed full of fun and laughter for me. Princess Yasmin came to me in May and she brought with her an immeasurable amount of happiness, she really made me feel like I belonged here – it is amazing what the love of an animal can do. I lost Tom (one of the hamsters) to a cold back in October which was really hard but the rest of the boys are brilliant.
Let’s see, hmmm. Well, work has been very trying on many occasions and on many different levels but I am still here. My apartment is fab and I love it in there – the lake view is priceless and 700 sq ft is just the right amount of space for me to keep spotlessly clean. Yes, that’s right, spotlessly clean!
I have attended many parties, thrown many parties and barely survived some of them but the memories I have gained will stay with me forever. Along the way I have made some amazing friends, a lot of which are on this email, just so they know how much fun I have had laughing, dancing and being debaucherous with them.
No men on the scene, hasn’t been anyone special at all for a long time really, I think I am slowly but surely becoming the crazy bunny lady – I am looking for a sister for Yasmin as I am typing this! I am not sure how I feel about it for the long term but it suits me just fine now – very strange though as everyone at home is pregnant or with a fairly new baby – Liz, Katie, Susie, Laura, Fiona, Emma, Claire (the list goes on…). Old maid? Me? Not yet but looks like spinsterhood is on the cards – far too set in my ways now.
The world cup was a devastating disappointment to me (I can still feel the pain now) as I was sure we were going to do it this year. I went to the Indy (now called Grand Prix) and that was a lot of fun – major adventure more like… That is about it for sports though – I have just purchased a Toronto FC season ticket for next year so MLS soccer is my new vice (soccer, I know, it’s footy).
I have been to the theatre 3 times – Spamalot, Wicked and Pippin – all wonderful productions. Concerts, there have been a billion, most notably Noel Gallagher unplugged in front of an audience of about 800 people but also including Chili Peppers, Xavier Rudd, V Festival in Toronto, V Festival in England, Jet, Pet Shop Boys, Beautiful South, Arctic Monkeys, Corinne Bailey Rae and probably lots more… my memory isn’t what it used to be.
I have been sailing, tubing, skiing, on a bungee swing 3 times back-to-back, I may even learn to snowboard this season. Oh and yes, for those of you wondering, I am still completely smoke-free – will be 2 years on the 14th January.
I pretended I was sex-in-the-city-esque in the summer by having ladies nights weekly, we had so much fun drinking, hot-tubbing, painting nails, paraffin waxing and eating some delicious food. I also relived my youth by dancing through the night to some major djs including the man himself – Carl Cox!! The list of djs I have seen is too long to mention but there is some major local talent here that I am privileged enough to be friends with so I get the best of both worlds – amazing sets without tiesto-loving gino crowds!
Visitors were minimal this year – Mummy and Daddy were here at the start of the year and Mum came back in October – we had the best time ever! Laura and Jaimie kept their now annual visit and we too had copious amounts of fun.
I don’t know what 2007 will hold for me, who does, really? I do want everyone at home to know that I miss you very very much but that I am happy here and that is all thanks to the amazing friends I have made. As for you guys here, I am one very lucky lady to have met you all. This time next year I will have a niece or nephew! Wow. Susie and Justin will be parents! I will be home for a short visit in March to meet my new family member, I am very excited.
Anyway, have a wonderful Christmas and I hope that the New Year brings you everything you wish for. Love, health, happiness, fun, laughter, adventure with minimal hurt and drama. Remember, dance like no-one is watching! (just like you can do at the Zone… only Torontonians will get that joke).
Lots of love to you all, be safe and don’t get stressed about things you can’t change. Like the asshole bitch that bangs into you whilst you are carrying 10 bags of delicate Christmas shopping who you want to smack over the head with your boot. Or the evil commuter who leaves the door to bang in your face as you attempt to get those shopping bags home. Don’t stress about them, just do like I do….. Yell, “MERRY F*CKING CHRISTMAS TO YOU, TOO”.
Merry Christmas to the very special people in my life.
Rachi xxxxx
P.S. Only 1 tear, I am getting hard in my old age
Thanks for making me so welcome on TA - you are a wonderful bunch of people.
