Well he is kinda right, anybody can get onto a computer with a program like Reason and make music, but making it actually sound good, thats the challenge.
Also as for DJing, I can see how he can think that anyone can get on and do it, I've had friends come over and try to mix, of course it sounded like a retarded monkey on the drums, but he thought he was doing really well, so I can see how he for one would think that DJing is easy.
But really, who gives a shit, everyone has different tastes and different opinions on what music is, just as long you you love it, fuck the rest of them.

In the immortal words of Sting... "It takes a man to see ignorance and smile".
This guy will probably have an epiphany at some point down the line and then he will be the first person to discover trance, in his own mind at least.
People like that are generally bad for the world whatever view they are defending be it music or politics.

Great quote, and the rest is true..
Some may say ignorance is bliss. But ignorance is just an excuse to be an ass and not see the world from anothers point of view.

Also, creating music from computerized sounds is crap, it's basically letting your computer be an instrument for you cause you're lazy." |
People like this guy(most likely a fan of guitar music) need to be put in their place. I posted this on another forum after some rocker fool tried talking smack on electronic dance music.
Here's my analogy for rock music...
Lets imagine there is a certain type of techno that, in every single song only and always uses this one particular synth sound. Now, sometimes there are some minor effects added to this one synth sound like distortion or delay, but it's always still the same basic sound. Also, there's always the same bass sound, the same kick, snare, and hi hat used in every song. You would think that would get old real fast right? Lets also imagine that this genre of techno that always uses the same sounds in every song has been produced over and over again for over 50 years, and there was even a hall of fame for this type of techno! That would be pretty ridiculous right?
Seriously, I don't understand all the hype over the last four decades of this thing called rock n roll and people's fascination with the sound that a guitar makes. It's actually pretty stupid if you stop and think about it.
The sky is the limit for creativity when creating electronic music. On the other hand there is only so much you can do with an electric guitar, bass guitar, and a set of acoustic drums.
Face it, guitar based music is becoming a thing of the past and electronic music is the future!

The problem is commercial radio and tv feeds them crap that they label trance when its crap like groove coverage or cascada or dj dean.
I like just getting James Holden's Nothing out and sticking it in there face and watching their reactions. |
The same is true for rock though.
Although to be fair, I have spent alot of time digging, and with the exception of Pink Floyd, all rock sounds bland and unoriginal to me. I seriousely can't stand it for more than a few minutes at a time. I guess it's just that knowing so much EDM and having seen so much variety in music as a consequence, I've develloped some high standards for artistic quality.
