Violence at events such as clubbing and raving aren't anything new.

It's not the clubs you should be worrying about, its the clientelle and the people that you are marketing too that you should really be worrying about.

When's the last time you saw a shooting outside a dnb event?
Or a stabbing during a trance event?

There was a fatal stabbing at a Calgary trance event in a club January 2005.
This one seems like it was a targetted hit but 2 bouncers also were wounded when the bad guys forced their way in.

But I would have to agree that hip-hop places are the most risky and electronica is a lot safer. There are 3 clubs in my town playing regular crappy music fuelled by cheap drinks, and shots have been fired outside all of them (only 1 injury recently though).

I think all events involving booze have some risk. People can be a lot more aggressive when they're drunk.

Sigh, I miss the good old days, when techno was relegated to dives and not to clubs where people go to be seen.

That's not always the truth. In fact Victoria's biggest street fight of 2006 happened outside Sugar, when Dj Dan's set was letting out. I had friends involved on both sides. Over 50 arrests were made that night.
