How about I already own it, and want to make a back-up of the video I spent money on?

Always putting your 2 cents in skipper, which is worthless to me.

To decrypt the movie, I use MactheRipper thats the only program I have found that works so far.
This just extracts the DVD to your HD as the VIDEO_TS files and removes all encrpytions.
I then use Popcorn or Toast to burn the VIDEO_TS files to a DVD.
If you want more help PM me.
and as for PCs, I use some de-encrpyting program called CSS+ or something like that to allow the program to burn.
Then I use AnyDVD software. Works sooooo good. You can delete extras, audio files, previews and screens, or just shrink the video to fit.
I have been using AnyDVD now for a while and never had a problem.

That's the best reason to use it. I currently live at University in my dorm room, and I don't want to lug all 300+ of my DVDs back and forth all the time. I also do lots of travelling. I don't want to bring the original copy w/ me incase I lose it, so its easier just to make a backup copy.

I can make a backup copy in less than 20 minutes, and have the same picture quality. And not to mention the fact that it costs less than $0.20 for each DVD.

Never used DVD Shrink..but AnyDVD does it all in one program too.
If you "purchase" AnyDVD it comes w/ a de-protection program...

I just use CSS so i can play any region videos and some other stuff.

dvd shrink is great if video quality isnt your main concern. dvd shrink is quick and does the job sufficiently.

dvd decrypter is perfect when the original source is a dvd5 and video requires no compression.

Why do you want 2 copies of the same thing?

I can answer that one for him

- If you want portability issues. I personally reside at two different locations, and its a bitch bringing DVDs back and forth from both houses.

- Another reason, is for backup purposes I'm not going to lie, I have dozens of DVDs that don't work anymore cause of scratches and skips, and this can be fixed by creating a backup to watch or stuff like that.

Well scratches is really your own fault - you scratch up one, you can scratch up another. Or do you keep burning more backups each time the movie is scratched up?

And the portability thing is a really rare case too - I'm sure not all people who claim to need a DVD burner to back up their DVDs have two houses in which they live.
