They did say they wanted to surrender, just with their terms
which we found unacceptable. We wanted an unconditiional
surrender to allied forces. Even after one bomb they didn't
agree. So telling them to 'view someplace', like what a
desert in the US or the ocean? How would they get observers
there? Just the logistics is hard with the country you're
at war with. Anyway a nuked city still didn't turn them around
so watching an explosion somewhere wouldn't have done anything
either.

I thought the B52 flew higher than anything the Japanese could send to chase after it, and was pretty much safe on its own? Surely the Japanese had radar that could have given them more than enough warning.

You must be thinking of the B-29; the B-52 wasn't operational until 1952(ish). And according to a quick wikipedia check, the Japanese Zero fighter and the B-29 have very similar ceilings, so the B-29 was not out of danger.

And if the Japanese did have radar, which I'm not sure they did, I'd imagine that it would have been destroyed by that point in the war.

Maybe world leaders should learn not just to think with their minds and hearts, but with their special places as well

If you watch the first part of the documentary, you can find your answer:

When the weather plane flew over Hiroshima, the population hid expecting an air raid. Had the other plane got there just 10 minutes later, many lives would've been saved. However, after 30 minutes (and the weather plane leaving the are), they came to the conclusion that they were safe.

That, more than anything, was the most painful moment to watch, in my opinion.
