I was using a 62 for the first time the other night and i didnt like the way i couldnt hear the master channel in my headphones. Like when i was bringing a track in etc if i had the bass cut it would register that on my headphones so it would still have the bass on, so mixing tracks in took some time to get used too.

The newer versions have sorted this out. The one i've played on it a club had pre EQ monitoring, the one i have at home has post eq monitoring. I thinjk i prefer the pre EQ tbh, makes it easier to notice little slips, and you can use the booth monitor for th epost eq monitoring

The 92 has a button to select pre/post eq monitoring.

To be honest, in a club situation there are many things that will sound very different if you start messing around with the mids or wont be heard at all.

Work with the bass, to be honest I have never ever heard anyone achieve anything worth writing home about when using a mid eq other than royally screw up the overall sound during a mix. Dance music is mastered in such a way that this is the least dominant frequency anyway so taking anything away can really suck the life out of your sound.

User the high to kill Hi Hats or boost it to let melodies or percussion from the outgoing track linger a while.

Work with the filters but don't go into over kill on them or you will piss the crowd off.

The gain is your friend and the Bass is too these two are the basis of your mixing. Think of it like this, you are in a new environment with a new mixer so will need to focus on getting yourself comfortable before you think about doing other stuff.

Cheers
Nem

Yeah, and be careful with those filters. If you don't know what your doing it's very easy to cut out the sound completely, or really piss everyone off with a LFO freak-out.

I ended up not using the filters. But having 2 mids was awesome. There was this one track I played with these awesome cut up vocals and when I had the next track totally mixed in I was able to cut out about every frequency of the previous track but the vocals. Was such a sweet mix and a great night at that.
