Anything on the Stone's Throw label. MF Doom, Madlib, J Dilla (RIP), etc., etc. One of my fave albums is Madvillainy.

www.stonesthrow.com

Cunninlynguists, Aesop Rock, Jedi Mind Tricks are some other good ones.

There's more to hip hop than just the rapping. Just like "our" music, there's a whole subculture and history to it...that if you knew about, you wouldn't bash the genre.

you've heard alot of it? why because u watch muchmusic and mtv? please before u even decide to crack ur knuckles to start writing think before you use ur fingers for ignorance.actually if u want to use your fingers for ignorance then come here and jerk me off. U havent heard shit and u dont know shit.

and repetitive lyrical content?!?!??!?

i'm not completely ignorant of the history and i'm not full out bashing the genre. it's just not what i care for, esp. the majority of mainstream stuff that i would call crap, because really, speaking about tits and ass isn't really something i find all that insightful. there are without a doubt talented people within the genre (and im going to listen to the ones you suggested, so thankyou) but i believe the inital comment was made in refernce to top 40 content, which i'd argue is lacking in quality.

i wouldnt say top 40 is lacking in quality either. hip hop is in a HUGE transition and theres not alot of top songs talkin bout tits and ass.
i personally think ur talkin from what other people say abt the genre making u an ignorant closed minded sheep. go follow the flock baaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

That's EXACTLY another reason why I laugh at these dumb fucks. Fucking educate yourselves, people. Your music and "shitty rap and retarded hip-hop" have a lot more in common and are much more tightly linked than you think.

Please though, continue making yourselves look stupid.

Actually there's a lot of good stuff going on in the mainstream. Kanye, Talib, Common, Mos Def...it's about time we got some REAL talent back.

But yeah, hopefully you like the stuff I suggested.
