Thats not really quitting is it?

I say " stopping" not "quitting" so when I do have a smoke I dont feel guilty about it. I "stopped" for 2 years, cold turkey. I found it really easy because it was my choice and not other people trying to influence me. My busy job helped being distracted by the urge. I also smoked weed at the time so I was still able to get my "fix" through weed. Then I stopped weed after. Then gained 30lbs. ( that is all gone now BTW)

Using fitness as a replacement is the best way, otherwise you will gain weight and think smoking will help.

My dad's a doctor at a university so he quits all the time. He says that beating the habit is harder then the cravings, so if you can beat the habit, then you can tackle the cravings with nicoderm. I think it even comes in a fruity flavor now.

Giving up Nicotine is the hardest thing ive ever attempted, im now 3 weeks into my giving up and still going strong.

I did use NRTs for the first week to tackle the withdrawals ( 21mg patch for the first three days and medium strength Nicorettes for the last four days ) and went straight of them as soon as i was mentally ready ready to.

I work in a busy bar doing 8-11 hr shifts ( mainly nights ) so didn`t make it any easier with everyone smoking around me and most of my family smoke plus the added stress of working all Xmas and New Year with no time to my self lol im suprised im still sane.

I suppose if you want to give up, you really have to prepare your mind for it and have an incentive for quitting ( mine was health and more money to see my long distance GF ).

This is my second attempt at giving up and im promising my self to stay quit.

My Advice and Benefits

1) Prepare your mind to give up, think posistive thoughts.

2) Note down ( on paper or in your mind ) your reasons for quitting and revise them in your head when you have the temptation to smoke.

3) Think Withdrawal Symptoms as Recovery Symptoms.

4) Tackle cravings with sugar free gums or sweets ( candy ), Cravings only last bout 5 mins each time, focus your attention on something else till the craving passes.

5) Wash all your bedding, clothing etc and remind your self how fresh they smell since you gave up

6) HEALTH BENIFITS (sp) taste buds return, better sense of smell, cleaner and healthier hair, teeth and nails. Your skin looks 200% better and more energy.

7) MORE MONEY!!!! I smoked on average 30 a day so thats about £45-£50 a week.... £200 a fucking month....£2500 a FUCKING YEAR!!! ( $5000 USD if im not mistaken ), just think what that could be spent on instead.

8) DRINK LOADS OF WATER, drink as much as you can, being dehydrated makes cravings worse plus drinking water can starve of hunger cravings.

9) Take one day at a time and reward your self with a little something.

10) NEVER NEVER EVER NEVER HAVE " JUST THE ONE " 98% chance that you will end up back to your old Habit, if you do have " just the one " never consider it as a failure, just stub it out and think what made you have the cigarette in the first place and think about all of the above.

All these is what i used to help me give up and they do work for me.
Just try to have lots of support when your giving up, its alot worse when you try to do it alone.

You will gain a litte flab ( im guilty for this ) when you give up since your appitite sky rockets and food tastes so much fucking better, well for that ill be joining a gym after the 21st Bday celebrations ( searches for Orbax`s Workout Thread ).

Also a little tip is to AVOID alchol at all costs for the first 3 weeks unless you have willpower of Titainium.

Well good luck to all the quitters and wish you the all the best.

Essay/

I found it really easy to quit, because I really wanted to. If you don't really want to, you'll have a much harder time.

Three things helped me:

1. Breaking the habit. So, first giving up smoking at my "normal" times (first thing in the morning, after meals, with tea, after sex, etc.). Once I did that, I found myself smoking A LOT less.

2. Smelling other smokers. After I had cut down a lot, anytime I was around other smokers I really noticed how awful they smelled. They stink to the point of nausea and irritation. Did I want to smell like that?? Hell no.

3. Acknowledging my cravings. I think this was most important part. Whenever I wanted a smoke, I would admit it to myself but NOT have one. It helped make the craving pass quicker. They only last for a few minutes anyways, and once they were over I was thankful I didn't give in.
