Useful for survival, not necessary for survival. It's been proven over and over again through natural selection that everything from genes to social skills are around today due to them being selected specifically for their assistance in our ongoing survival (passing on our genes). Music certainly can't be any different. Natural selection is not exactly what you'd call friendly when it comes to waste. |
You say this because you don't really understand what it means for a social unit to survive. People start thinking about a little group of hunter gatherers, and start thinking how they could have absolutely nothing aside from this to make it in the world. Wrong. Our routines enable us to have the means of sustenance, but our cultural rituals enable us to have the desire to acquire that sustenance. Music, storytelling - basically, the domains of the tribal Shaman, have been a MAJOR part of each tribes success on EVERY continent.

If you enjoy music with depth - music that may spontaneously induce fantasies of distant realms, places, or states of being - you may enjoy the music on the following link. However, there is also a chance that you will be re-directed to a horrid vision that will claw away what remains of your dwindling childhood innocence. Are you willing to take that risk? I thought so... I thought so.
