Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I hate when I see tracks from 2001 being labeled as "new releases".

I also have some issues with the quality of some of their tracks. There's been a few situations where the track I downloaded skipped. Usually Beatport replaced it, but I had to really bother them about it On top of that, some songs they couldn't replace and just gave me credit, which didn't solve my problem: I WANT the damn song

Nah, i think she's just saying that you hear repetition amongst dj's because they all play 'the most downloaded' track on the site. (not related to your original comment)

I think the reason Beatport does so well is because of the layout and how easy it is to browse. That's the main reason I don't really even bother with sites like DjDownload (totally annoying search engine/layout). I personally could live without them re-releasing tracks as well, but it's not that big of a deal.

There have been times where i've downloaded a whole bunch and deleted them by accident (or misplaced them). Their customer support are top notch, usually replying within 24 hours and giving me the opportunity to re-download with no questions asked. Might have something to do with the fact I have purchased over 650 songs since March of '06.

I don't really care about the poorly dated releases - with a quick check on discogs you can find when it was originally released. Besides, if I like a track, I'm going to play it regardless of whether it's actually brand new or not.

It's not about clutter, I can sift through a few extra pages. The problem is that it compromises the actual current releases, the NEW work being put out by artists today. And by doing that, IMO it also compromises the site.

The solution is simple have "new releases" as that, and an "update on back catalog" option. However, that probably wouln't fly as I have a feeling record labels are rejoicing at the fact that they can re-release a track from 10 years ago (there are a few) as a NEW tune and beatport is cashing in on that as well.

well yeah that's another can of worms.

But surely you can understand how the ACTUAL release of a track is more important than the Beatport release date. lol

EDIT: or maybe the solution could be having two date stamps, the beatport release and the orig release date.

Yeah, that would definitely work.

To make it even easier, they could make it so if you click 'view all', it's everything (including re-releases) - and clicking on 'new releases' would be ONLY new releases. That way they wouldn't have to make a new tab, or really re-configure anything on the interface.

So who's making the request, you or me?

arn't the 'new releases' of old stuff, just a symptom of growing pains? now that we are starting to embrace the realities of paying for our digital downloads, sites like beatport are becoming more popular. perhaps in another year or two, all the artists will have finally released all their old stuff as 'new releases' and the system will balance itself out, allowing new releases to be 'new'.
