i think that when you are going with a large group of people the big room experiance is more appropriate. But when you are going with 1 -2 other people its more fun to have a little club where you will get to know the people around you and enjoy that special vibe.

Some larger venues are good though. I had an amazing experience at the Bell Centre on NYE.

I agree with this. I think it also depends on the genre: trance suits a larger venue, whereas house and techno (usually) suit a smaller venue. That being said, with house and techno, it still depends on the party. However, IMO there are very few techno or house DJs that would suit a bigger venue rather than a smaller venue. Carl Cox is one that comes to mind.
