No, there aren't:

1. Find one with an integrated sound card.
2. Find one with a layout that suits ableton so well.

Factor in the build quality aspect, and $641 (which means it should be around $500-600?), and that's a nice option.

Build quality and feel are important for the same reason you don't buy a behringer mixer.

Paying that kind of money solely for "A&H Build" seems really, really ridiculous.

Well that's not really "true", it's more opinion. Head over to wavemusic.com, a lot of very big names in club sound hang out there. Nearly all of them prefer the Rane MP2016 to the A+H xone mixers as far as sound quality goes, and EVERYONE says the Urei 1620 trumps them both. But in this class, they all sound "good", it's really preference.

I don't see an LFO on the filter section of the S2? I really don't use it much on my 92, but that might be why it's a little cheaper too.

I'm considering getting a S2, but I'm waiting for Rane to announce their rumored 19" mixer with Serato built in, and I'm also hoping that Pioneer will upgrade their DJM3000 to match the DJM800. The DJM3000 is long due!

Well, I don't know much about things like this - but there seems to at the very least be a vocal minority that thinks the 3d/2d (which is what I was talking about, sorry for the confusion) isn't necessarily layed out that well for Ableton. Whether or not its true isn't for me to say, as I've never touched a 3d.

However, as an A&H owner already, I understand the desire for their build quality - I just don't think I'd shell out this kind of money for what can essentially be done for around half the price.

And did you not say the list price was $900? If so, I wouldn't expect to be able to get one for less than $700 very easily.

Someone posted the list as $650. So it could be "in the range".

I think the 3D/2D are pretty well laid out, kinda similar to sasha's maven. The 3D is super expensive, and like I said, I want something to compliment my mixer, not replace it.

I'd still want a 92, but the S2 doesn't look shabby.

Hell, for $1100~ I'd spring for the S2 over the 92 almost any day.

If so, then I agree, save for the fact that it has a MIDI clock signal built right in. That's a strong selling point... but I still wouldn't buy one.

If A&H would put that sound card with it's accurate MIDI clock into something like a 92, they'd have the greatest DJ mixer ever made, and I would be forced to pawn most of my posessions to get one.

wouldn't that be a little redundant?

the 3D is a 92 with a modded layout + the midi controllers - the 4band. but basically, the same thing.

Putting a soundcard and MIDI control into the 92 doesn't make sense.

If that's what you want, the DJM-800 has that (minus the soundcard).

The issue is that for people who have tried to use it as BOTH a MIDI controller AND a mixer, it just doesn't work.

I think having the separate controllers is a great idea for portability.

Yeah, but it costs $1000 more, and while it certainly looks like a great piece of kit, I'm more interested in a Bitstream 3x for my MIDI controlling purposes.

Yeah, but the DJM doesn't have the awesome A&H sound quality (not trying to start a debate, but analog and digital are two different platforms all together), or their awesome filters, or EQs, and from what I've gathered over the years, A&H's superior durability.

Don't get me wrong, the DJM-800 is a damn nice mixer. But I think Xones are better.
