When it becomes every person for themselves in a battle for survival, and natural order dictates survival of the fittest, how would you define a "bad person" (if all they're doing is fighting to stay alive like everybody else)?

Hrm, unfortunately, Children of Men is a movie that most people aren't going to understand and will criticize and then lead others to believe that those people have horrible taste of movies. Congratulations, you're one of those people. How does it feel to be an idiot?

lol. Im stupid because I dont agree with you? feeling a tad high and mighty?

CONVO*******************
ME : it just seems like its well shot movie so far with some big names...but the story doesnt really pick up in any significant way yet
and the human interest part isnt very present as the interest was shot to death

HIM: the whole idea of what would happen to society if we could no longer produce is interesting and this tries to cover it peoply proabably would feel hopeless and turn into animals

ME: true but it so far hasnt shown much of the struggle one would deal with facing imminent mortality with no consequences
*************************

this movie was a slow, plodding, well shot movie that had no substance, no philosophy, and at most could be a dramatized documentary of a 3rd world country woman struggling to keep a baby.

Thats a fucking stretch though. Almost no plot, very little writing, damn near no acting.

It. Was. Well. Shot. Thats IT. If you have any further analysis it would be like looking at a photo and making a story up for it. Its not necessarily what the intent of the film was.

This isnt an indie film, it doesnt delve into the nature of man or the reflections of a tormented soul.

There are no conflicts. What choice is there at any point in that movie where one might think "wow, boiling it down to a choice like that is insightful. What would I do, what should I do?"

A simple struggle for life goes on every day. we dont need to glorify a dude trying not to get shot the whole movie.

[removed first line, it was in reply to wienerschnitzel's comment]

While I understand you may not have agreed with the message, the film itself looked incredible, it had great acting all around, the sets were extraordinary, the level of detail put into every scene was awesome. It was a very surreal movie, and I didn't agree with a lot of the political jabs thrown into the dialogue, but I understood where it was going and what it was saying.

I'm not even sure why someone wouldn't like it -- maybe the ending wasn't clear enough for you (I thought it was extremely fitting.)

Maybe you thought it had a pointless plot -- well, if Children of Men has a pointless plot, than help us all, because Children of Men is easily among the most original films in the last few years. It has a classic formula, yes -- the world has gone to hell but there is hope and it must be protected. Hell, even Fifth Element used that same plotline but spun it entirely differently.

However, the movie is not so much about the end results as the actions and reactions of people along the way. Scenes like where everyone stops fighting when they hear the baby cry and they just let them pass through... you stop and think, "Damn, they're all blown away by the sound of this baby, after 18 years of silence." And then it all changes and they're back to fighting instantaneously.

There's a reason it has a 91% rating on rottentomatoes, and sometimes I'm very skeptical about critics, but this time 153 critics were right and 16 just didn't get it. Sorry you're in the 9%, because this was a fucking great movie.

-----------Awesome, something to respond to...

Perhaps you were watching a different movie that someone mislabeled as Children of Men? Were you watching Stomp the Yard? The pace was incredible -- there was no lingering about, the entire movie is a chase and I think it's one of those movies you cannot say was "slow." You can say The Good Sheperd was slow. You can even say Forest Gump was slow and that was a damn good movie too. But this was not slow. Saying a movie has no philosophy or substance is a huge stretch, and that comment isn't even relevant to this movie. It didn't have a philosophy you could see or agree with, is what you mean.

And now I think you're just making shit up.

I'm not here to defend this movie -- I don't care if you like it or not, but I do care whether or not you recognize the movie as being better than, "it fucking sucked." Did you like The Fountain? I'm guessing no.

1. No, it isn't, and I'm quite sure it's not supposed to be, with a 75 million budget. Do you even know this director? Go look up his other movies (Great Expectations -- check that one out.)
2. What the hell are you talking about, "reflections of a tormented soul." What the fuck?

quote:
There are no conflicts.

Yep, you're making shit up.

I think you should stop watching movies all together and leave them for people who get it. Hell, I fucking hate Pulp Fiction, but I realize it's a great, well-made movie, with some great writing, a good pace, and a host of fine actors. I'd never say, "It fucking sucked" and yet I probably dislike it more than any other movie.

By the way, you can carry on with this conversation and hating a great movie -- not responding anymore, just wanted to say that you're a fucking moron, thanks.
