Nah, trance can never be as hard as techno, dude!

I'm telling ya no matter how hard u think your tracks are, i can always find TECHNO slammers that are much and much and much and much harder... it's just the nature of techno and trance
and believe me i know what i'm talking about - i heard 4 tracks from your set... they are not even close to Hard Tekno... sorry

Hehe i know that u can get harder techno as i have some techno tracks that are harder than these i meant its about as hard as poss for trance to get while still being able to still just about call it trance As for Nosferatu the reason i put that in was because i had enough time at the end and i thought to myself we'll this is just about the only time u'll be able to fit this in a set so i did

OK then

i have a lil recommendation... u might want to include the track Based on 303 by Aciex in your set (instead of Nosferatu?). I think u'll like it a lot and... by downloading the track u can support the artist. And no, it's not my production, it's my friend's production
BTW, it's not that i try to make him popular, that track IS really cool!

DJ Nosferatu, thats DJ Ruffneck isnt it?. van kerckhoeven or whatever is name is (i forget), i used to be well into my ruffneck stuff a few years ago... good quality hardcore.

ravemonkey, have you ever stumbled across Tuneboy before? if not i suggest that you try d/l'ing tuneboy - kick some bass (club mix), or giada - return to forever (tuneboy mix), some luvvly ruffass drums on them, aint heard any beatz as hard as this since the old industrial techno days... Delta 9, Disciples of Annihilation, nasenbluten, and the such-like

Nope, that's wrong. Nosferatu aka Endorphin is just signed to the Ruffneck's label (he released Harcore DNA, The Future, and some other chewns there!)

Patrick van Kerckhoven (aka DJ Ruffneck, Wedlock, and D'Spyre) is NOT related to Nosferatu... the only thing they have in common is their place of living - they both come from the Netherlands

How do you go about proving that techno is "harder" than trance.

What measures the "hardness" of a tune?

It's viscousity? It's mass?

It's the difference between the nature of techno and trance. Take a random hard trance track, no matter how hard it is, it's still trance. Now, what the main difference between techno and trance? Correct, most of trance trax are most likely to hypnotize u in one way or another. Doesn't matter what subgenre it is: some like uplifting stuff, others like progressive, the rest - pshychedelic stuff. The thing is all trance is meant to affect you emotionally.
But techno is a synonym of the disorder. It's a mess the primary purpose of which is to perplex and, at the same time, amaze u with its extreme complexity and inconsistency. Ask yourself a question 'Why do so many people listen to techno?' The answer is it provides them with the power... not the emotional power like trance does. It's just the opposite thing - techno (at leat most of the subgenres) has the power of destruction. Massive, dangerous, unemotional, wavering, and unpredictible - the adjectives that describe it best. With its odd and busy sounds, it creates that unique atmosphere that only techno can create. Most of techno trax are extremely complicated in terms of the structure. A techno track may blow up at the time u don't expect it to, or switch from stereo to mono permanently, or the whole beat can switch from stable to irregular, new samples may come out in an inappropriate place, or they just can subside suddenly... U see techno trax are like a black box: u absolutely, whatsoever can not predict their development while listening to them.

My point is that Hard Trance is still trance... that means it still has the properties and qualities of TRANCE. It still affects u mentally, although in a less noticable way. Yes, hard trance is meant to be massive, but it's not meant to knock the shit out of your head so u lose your ability not only to feel but also to think... which is THE MAIN PURPOSE OF HARD TECHNO. Forget emotions, reject the smoothness, fuck the shifting bassline... but welcome the absolute apathy, distortion, and crushing, repetitive, and solid base that'll make your ears bleed just due to its extreme pressure on your hearing. Hard techno takes your brain out and passes it through the meat grinder. That's all it does.
