Ergh... Nothing personal, but that just seems like a really close minded comment. Language actually limits our thought processes, or at least so I like to believe. If you can step outside the box of our heads briefly, and observe the way we think, we actually think with our words. Imagine if our minds could think without such a restriction. It happens from time to time, but not often. Entire concepts can be processed in less than a second due to the speed and power of our brains. This rant of mine occurred in the blink of an eye, but it's taken me a lot longer to actually type it out to express it.
Language limits our thought process since words are a serial process (ie one word, one sound, at a time sequentially), our speed and power of thought are greatly limited by our language.
For example, just because this girl doesn't have a 'word' for tree, it doesn't mean she doesn't know what one is. Keep in mind that the word 'tree' is completely arbitrary as well. Tree in no way describes what it is. It's simply a word associated with an object. The only reason we have the word 'tree' is so we can communicate clearly with others. We would all know what one is, having been aroudn them long enough, irrespective of what we called it. The difference is that when we all say 'tree', we can all go "ahh yes... I know what you're on about".
[/end rant]
