why is ita stupid label. how much more obvious can original mix be. who the fuck could think that original mix would be anything different than what it is stated. what is it, like a remix of the original? seriously man, this is one of the most idiotic threads i have ever seen. sorry to the thread starter, but that is a dumb question.

btw:
original mix seems to come on vinyls that have remixes of the original track, perhaps to better help the dj remember which mix. when i make music, i dont label songs original mix.

It's for people who think the remixes suck and they want to make sure everyone else knows "I dig the ORIGINAL"

It makes sense to do that IF there IS other remixes. If it is the sole version of the tune, then it is pointless.

That's the only reason I can think of to make it almost worth it, but it still is common sense that if there is no (Remix)/(Edit)/(Dub) then it's the original.

I hate that label, I never put it on my tracklists. If it's the original mix I just don't put anything.

In extremely rare cases what we think is the "original mix" of a track isn't the original mix of the track. Yeah, it might have no labelling to it beyond the track name and it might be the track that producer first revealed to the world and what made it popular, but it's not the ORIGINAL MIX of the track that the producer completed.

Example? Motorcycle - As the Rush Comes. It originally had very different music. Believed it was only ever played in one G&D mix (their mix for Global DJ Broadcast on 02-15-2003). But it was never released. They changed the music in the track before the world even got to know the song and the track with that music exploded and was simply labelled "Motorcycle - As the Ruch Comes" ...

Here's a sample of Motorcycle - As the Rush Comes (Original Mix) I cropped out of that set and compressed all to hell!

It's not necessarily a stupid thread or question. There are cases where the artist does 2 mixes of a track, under the same alias.

ex. Driftdreamer - Come (orig. mix) [awesome track btw]
Driftdreamer - Come (Driftdreamer mix)

trackitdown.net/

it's down to artist preference and can get confusing.

But I think the thread starter was more referring to why is "original mix" in parentheses when of course it's the orig. mix, well that's just to make sure and distinguish that it IS the orig. mix so there's no confusion I'd say.
