Technique, I believe, shall seperate the wheat from the chaff.

There are plenty of great tracks out there, but djs that only play great tracks in and out of a mix shouldnt be considered great themselves. Ultimately, what matters is the Dj's ability to play them differently, his technique is the greater steering wheel to success, not the "greatness" (lol) of his tracks..

Though you may think this, that is not true at all. Clubs only care so much about technique, if you don't bring a crowd, you won't get gigs. It's all about money. So IMO it is way more about the tracks than technique. You can have all the technique in the world, but if they don't like your tunes and you aren't bringing a crowd or catter to a large crowd who likes your music, you aren't getting a gig.

Alright I reread what you wrote, I agree with where you are coming from, a set needs to flow, it can't just be bomb after bomb.

+1, and too few listening to your technique. They are more into the tracks itselves

And even then if you're technique isn't so hot but you are mixing great tunes and really going crazy with the mixes (battle shit, lots of tunes, efx etc) i could give a shit if you fuck up a bit.

I agree with most of what you guys are saying...

However, Technique is an added weapon to any dj, that could very well sell more than the tracks he's got.

Take zabiela for example, I've seen him thrice, and each time he decides to go down and dirty with his technique the whole room would either jump up and down like maniacs or stare at him in dazzle.

Both technique and tracks are important, but technique adds so much more value to your sound, value that you'd enjoy and can use to position yourself amongst other djs. That unique position can get u gigs.
