Sorry, no dice, I found pro tools lovely for laying down a demo, the second I tried to sync anything to a beat, import a loop, even edit really, I had dramas, partly because there is (was?) no built in latency compensation. Midi implementation is shot too. And really you say, its superb at audio recording and mixing, and I agree, but how could it not be! To my mind its incredibly simple, every daw has a mixer and an edit window, its the most basic thing!

Ha, you're so far out in left field it's not even funny. Come sit for one day in one of our editing sessions at the studio and you'll eat your words every day for the next year.

You haven't even begun to touch the capabilities of the software in post production.... And yes, there is latency compensation... I'm just laughing because if you only knew how much DSP a single edit session requires for even one scene in a movie, especially when the mixer is working with thousands of pre-dubs, many of which have plug-ins inserted directly on them... lol.

And yes, MIDI does work in ProTools. It's not the focus of the software... the focus is recording and editing. But, you can write MIDI quite easily, edit MIDI, and then convert MIDI to audio without any kind of headache.

The idea here isn't to find the most difficult software dude... It's to find the software that fits your needs. If you want to do MIDI, then stick with something cheaper... Ableton is superb at that.. so is Logic, hell I'd even use Reason to edit MIDI before I'd use protools for that purpose... Again, IT'S ALL ABOUT YOUR NEEDS.

This is the last post I'm putting on this topic, because it was off topic to start with and I don't feel like going on about a marginal issue which doesn't even apply to most TAs.
That said, its very interesting to read between the lines of you post, it looks like you do a lot of post production. It also seems that your running a TDM system. This thread was about what's best to do music on, as a whole process, not just the post. 1/ Pro tools is probably the best thing in the industry for post production, so no argumnent there. 2/ TDM is really good, so no argument there. But unfortunately, it has nothing to do with this discussion. If you'r running TDM then good for you, I'm jealous, but we were talking about an mbox, or at most maybe a 002. That is not TDM. Like I said, LE is a glorified tapedeck.
So no argument, we are talking about different things. I'm jealous of your TDM system, although I admit, if I had one, I'd run DP as the frontend

chill dude... i commented on the MBox in earlier responses, which i'm sure that you read... but, you decided to to start the argument as to why u don't like PT, so, being a user, I'm gonna respond. Yea, we use TDM at work, but I don't use it at home. So, with that said...
