What if you exploit the equipment and produce a superior track. That was my point. It's got sod all to do with motivation.

I'm not saying that the track is arse. It's a grreat track. Seems that in every top 100 it rarely leaves the top spot.

It's time to move on!!

Well - if you want to be picky yeah - but I'm not talking about the shitty 45RPM version, just the overhyped E-Werk version.

Ok ,the problem is that production quality doesn't determine the overall quality of the track, which in turn is dependent on much more complex factors like errmmm...the MELODY and the overall STRUCTURE for example. In the end of the day, who cares about production anyway, when the majority of todays tracks are uninspiring and just bad? For an Angel has an amazing hooky simple lead piano-line. Hence it will be remebered. Who is going to remember todays bloody over-played epic trance productions in 10 years time?

Because technology has advanced doesn't mean that the quality of the music has advanced as well. If that was the case no one would listen to 60s and 70s music for example. Strangely enough i find Vangelis' "Bladerunner" soundtrack to be one of the best electronic music albums ever made, despite the fact that it was produced in the beginning of the 80s. If that was the case, no one would listen to old great bands like Pink Floyd, King Crimson , Tangerine Dream, Can and Kraftwerk and countless others.

It is not strange, that post-Millenium EDM has gone in a quite 80s electro-way, bringing back old analogue sounds and stuff. Presumably, people were fed-up with the clinical, crisp productions and wanted something more raw and dirty, like the older electronic sounding of the 80s.

A melody is good, regardless of it being played in a quitar, a flute, a violin, an orchestra or a super-massive-Pro-52000 super-saw synth. Its music that makes the difference not bloody special effects and crystal-clear sounding! So yes, "For an Angel" still remains on top.

I know you're very keen to push this agenda, but For An Angel is just as shit melodically as it is bland production-wise.

Yes structure and melody are important.

But just like a modern supercar is better to drive than a classic supercar, so a track produced with modern technology can be deemed a better production than one with old technology.

If that weren't the case then people would still be producing tracks as they were produced 10 or 20 years ago.

Oh do shut up for once. If you're going to make a fucking argument, make one that isn't "I've downloaded more MP3s than you".

I got into dance in 88. I went to my first rave in the summer of 88 - I don't know if you know this but the UK were pioneering the dance scene when the swedes were still running around naked in the valleys and hills wearing only a pair of clogs.

I'm 31.

Why?

Heard more music = more informed opinion. It's very simple. I haven't seen a single early 90's trance enthusiast who praises For An Angel as a masterpiece. That should tell you something.
