Honestly, I don't buy into that 'the world is getting worse every year' melodrama people have going. People have been thinking their generation will be the last and all of that forever, bad things have always happened, and probably always will. You telling me you would have preferred to live in a peasants hovel 600 years ago? There have always been stupid people, there have always been cruel people, there have always been ignorant people, in the scheme of things, not much has changed except that technology has made it all more global.

I am not saying my generation will be the last. That would be a good thing. And i'm not saying that conditions are getting worse. Its the complete full-of-shitness that gets worse year after year and it makes me sick. And i can't speak for the full course of history, i speak only for what i've seen while i have been alive.

I know you didn't say that specifically, but I'm just talking about that general 'ahhhhh the sky is falling' line of thought. People always think things are getting worse, nothing is ever as good as it was 'back in the day.' It's just the way people are I guess.

I'd say it's more because we're mostly incapable of it. You can change setting, you can change technology, but changing human nature is a lot harder.

Sounds like he was already depressed and suicidal. The salvia would have given him the motivation to go through with it. It's often the case when someone who's very depressed starts to get better, that's always the point where suicides occur.
