Ok, as promised I’ve done some examples and uploaded them. Comments etc are always welcome. I have encoded them at 32kbps. I know this is poor quality but I have a slow connection and limited server space so sorry about that but you still get the overall idea. It goes "Artist - Track Name (Trick etc.)" though that should be pretty obvious

1) Binary Finary - 1999 (Star 69 Vocals Added) 152kb
2) Citizen Caned - The Journey (Spin Back in Build Up) 104kb
3) System F - Out Of The Blue (Power Down) 75kb
4) Planet Prefecto - Not Over Yet (Beat Swapping with PvD - Tell Me Why) 65kb
5) Eufex - Yippeekiay (Spin Back) 41kb
6) Brain Bug - Nightmare (Spin Back & Build Up Double) 247kb

All were recorded live by me on my decks today except number 3 which I did for a CD back in November. If you want some more examples just post and I'll do some more.

Enjoy

Cool examples. But what is "doubling up breakdowns"?

I'm sorry I missed that one out D-Syde, especially as it was the one you were going on about

7) G.D. – Choral Reef (Double Break Down) 354kb

To do this trick you need either 2 copies of the same track on either vinyl or cd, and/or a CD player that you can loop well with. It’s probably the hardest of the things that I’ve uploaded as you have to get you throwing-in or looping spot on. You also need to know the structure of your tunes quite well.

For the example I used the mini breakdown/build up in this track near the end. It usually goes “Break Down : Build Up : Bosh Bosh Main Part” All your simply doing is putting in an extra breakdown so it goes “Break Down : Break Down : Build Up : Bosh Bosh Main Part” Sorry for the simplified explanation but it was the only way I could describe it. It’s not really Bosh Bosh Main part either because it does not use the main melody again but you get the idea You don’t have to do it this way you can do it “Break Down : Break Down : Build Up : Build Up : Bosh Bosh Main Part” Or ”Break Down : Build Up : Break Down : Build Up : Bosh Bosh Main Part”

If You do it right it’ll send everyone bonkers
Hope this helps D-Syde, if you want one that's a bit more clear I can do another.

This is a really cool trick that sends the crowds crazy...especially when its a song they recognize. They are totally expecting it to break and for them to go crazy, but you start the build up all over again.

judge jules did that with brainbug - nightmare and the crowd went APE

Thanks for the praise guys!

Another thing you might like to try is a flanger type effect. To do this you need two copies of the same track. For this example Deck A will be live and Deck B will be the cued one. Get Deck B at the same speed as Deck A. Then choose a cue point on Deck B (cue point is explained a bit more below, you should read that...) and release in time with Deck A. Correct any throwing-in errors. Once you have the beats in time as if you were going to mix normally either give deck B an ever so slight nudge forward or back so it’s just slightly ahead or behind. Now bring open the x-fader or the channel fader for Deck B depending on your set up so that both Deck A and B are live...Then, lady luck permitting, you should be able to hear the cool flanger effect. If you can’t then your doing something wrong. Start again and have another crack, you’ll get it eventually. Oh and in case your wondering what flanger sounds like, you’ll know when you manage to do it, it’s an unmistakable sound, it’s a sort of like a sci-fi type swooshy noise. (Note: Flanger will work even if you don’t have the second tune slightly ahead or behind but I find this just brings the effect out more.)

When doing this you have to be careful and closely monitor the mixer out put levels. You’ve got two tunes pumping out so your mixer will be bouncing in the Red LED zone if your not careful. Also, the more melodies playing the more you’ll notice the effect than if it’s just drum kicks and hi-hats etc. Your aiming to get it so the structure matches perfectly too, so it’s like this:

DECK A: Intro : Body : Break Down : Build Up : Climax/ Main Melody : Body

DECK B: Intro : Body : Break Down : Build Up : Climax/ Main Melody : Body

So to get it just right you need to be quick on your toes finding the right cue point and you’ll need to know them tunes well. Good tunes are ones that have plenty of small gaps in the beat before starting a new phrase or highly memorable parts. A good place to start is with a tune like Mauro Picotto – Baguette. That’s got plenty of places for easy cueing.

LOL, it seems I always end up waffling on about track structure. I’d make a clip of this but I don’t think you’d be able to hear it when it’s encoded at 32kbps. Oh and one final point. As with any trick, it helps to have multiple copies of a track and more than 2 turn tables or CD players. That’s why most of the really good set-ups, ie. Super clubs have 4 Turntables and 2 CD Players.

Anyway, sorry for the long post!
Remember: practice makes perfect, but most of all have fun
