this is a cooking wine.

edit: its made from sweet rice and wheat. its only recommended for cooking because this type of wine also has salt added.

its probably sold as a souvenier because it comes in a fancy bottle. typical chinese cooking wine comes in an ugly brown bottle and sells for about $2 here at the supermarkets and for about $0.50cad in china. just keep it on the mantle for show. it does look nice.

there are many different types of rice wine.
you can drink cooking wine (its what the homeless drunks around chinatown drink because its cheap) but i can guarantee that it will not taste good because it was not made for drinking. technically, you can drink anything (urine, mercury, etc) but it might not be good for you or it might taste like shit.
