this is a public forum...thefore I can finally say "GTFO" or whatever the kids say these days...

kthxbye

i like to help but i dont know jack about production. it's funny because (in my experience) many djs are "helpful" to one another but are hesitant to show each other any crazy tricks they've learned

I don't mind sharing what I know here. I'm not going to put a lot of time into it though, because you never know if you are wasting your time or not. Some of these so called "stupid questions" are really an attempt to start a discussion. Like one recent one, asking what pink noise is. I'm sure this person knew they could look it up with a search, they've been around here a while. I think they wanted to know what everyone here thought about pink noise, and how they use it. Instead, they got told do do a search. How bout we just dissolve this forum, we don't need it, if a search and FAQs are all we need? Unforunately, search engines and FAQs can't talk back to you and engage you in a discussion.

There's a bit of snottiness and nastiness here. If you think a question is stupid, just ignore it. Smartass comments are uncalled for and make this place look bad. You have jackasses on every music forum though, I'm glad there is an ignore feature here.

As most people know here I help out every now and then and spread what I know on to the newbies.

I do tend to be a smartass tho when people ask a question that's already been asked in three other threads that are still on the first page and the answer is really in the FAQ (if you get what I mean).

Asking really stupid questions over and over again isn't a privilige you get just because you're a newbie to producing.

I love sharing my knowledge with others. Yah, people ask stupid questions alot. But when I first started dj'ing and producing, I didn't know some of the basic shit either. So to tell somebody that if they can't answer a basic or stupid question then they don't deserve to by producing is kinda harsh. I feel that some people fear competition so they try to eliminate those who don't much so they don't become a threat.

When I help others, I feel that I'm making more of a contribution to the music as a whole. I'm sharing my experience and knowledge with somebody who hasn't experienced it (whatever "it" is). This way, they can avoid any hardships or at least have an expectation on what "could happen". If that person becomes a great dj or musician, then I feel even better that I helped somebody make thier dreams come true. I can say that I had some influence on it.

If somebody asks a repetitive question I often reply with a reference on where they can get thier answer. I don't spend alot of time giving them the answers rather I have them answer thier own question through researching it.

Hang out here active for 5 years and I promise you will change that view of answering the same stupid questions over and over again

Why do you feel it's your responsibility to reply to so called "stupid" questions? Ever just try ignoring them? That's what I do. I scan through the posts here each day and only click on the ones that are obviously worthwhile discussions. If I happen to click on one that is a classic noob question, I simple leave it and move on. Let the moderators here do their job, they can inform the noob poster to find the answer in the stickies, or even lock the thread. There are even a few patient and helpfull people here that will answer their question, or at least point them to the stickies.

Now here's my theory, you guys just love to pile on some newbie asking a noob question. It's makes you feel better about yourself, which is pathetic and immature. If you feel that inadequate that you have to pile on the newbs, maybe you should be honing your producing skills, rather than spending your time ridiculing newbs. TwistedDUO made a good point, all this stims from the fact that you consider new producers a threat, competition. Again, all comes back to feeling inadequate about your own abilities. I bet you never thought about it, now have you? Of course not, because you obviously lack critcal thinking skills.

zodiac there's no need to become agressive, nor is there a need to overuse your brain to make up weird theories about competition and stuff...

I've personally never seen producing as a competition, there's room for everyone in the scene as far as I care.
it seems like it's you that have the issue with the competition part since you seem to feel less than some of the people here, but again, it's not a competition so don't...

and just for the record, I've never stated anywhere that I'm a "good guy"/"nice guy", I help people that deserve helping and whenever a new LORD OF BASS jumps out, I flame the living shit out of that guy...mostly for the fun of it...

Interesting theory. Any evidence or logic to support it, or are you just full of shit?
