Dude the tap button just lets you manually tell the unit what the BPM is. You literally just tap in time with the beat so the unit knows what the BPM is coz if you set an effect to run for say 16 beats but at the wrong BPM it will sound shit

Some units (like EFX1000 & DJM909 & prob others) also let you "dial" up the BPM if you already know what it is.

It'll show you pretty much what he's done in the last video (though the tunes are different to protect the innocent)...

(the scratch sample's the same though.)

you can do this with a cdj-800? The scratching that zabiela is doing I mean.

Because I see him touching the platter sometimes, and just barely moving the platter there towards the end. Well on a cdj-800 I know that If I am touching the platter at all then the loop will stop unless I take my hand off.

Someone help clarify.

I'm a scratching noob.

You are right, the loop will stop if you put your hand on it but don't forget he is also using an EFX500 that incorporates various effects such as delay, transform, jet, pan and all sorts of stuff. What he is doing is actually quite simple but sounds cool.

You can scratch as you want on the 800, but the deck is only the sound source. It's what you do with the faders and effects that really makes the difference.

Cheers

I'm wondering if I can mimick this by using the delay or echo effect on my djm-400?

I'm not worried about the transform part here, I'd just like to be able to keep the soung while touching the top of the platter.

Does beatport have such a pack, I don't find it at the moment?

Tapping it wont get it perfectly in time, either. It will get it close, sure, but you'll want to fine tune it as much as possible (if you're a perfectionist like myself) and that would require adjusting the pitch on the track you're scratching over.

And I'll upload the sample pack today. When I first posted this it sounded like there was only one person interested and I ended up forgetting about it. I get home from work today and I have 12 PMs from people asking for it. It'll be up shortly.

Your standard CDJ-1000 and what looks like a DJM-something or other.

No, I don't think so with the 400. On the 909 you can. The echo on the EFX-500/1000 is really a hold echo (which is the name of the effect on the 909) when at full depth.

I think he was referring to the sound Eddie was using. It just sounds like your everyday synth tone, made into a short loop.
