we give out money to each other in red envelopes (usually elders to younger peeps), we set off fire crackers, parade type deal w/ the dragons n stuff. also, we aren't allowed to cook for 2-3 days, ideally your supposed to cook a lot of food the day before and eat leftovers for 3 days i believe, also your supposed to wear only new clothes the day of. i'm sure there's other stuff... that i don't remember as of now.
i wouldn't say all that is fun stuff.... but its more or less a time where family's get together and hang out together.
I didnt see any firecrackers but in Flushing people were walking around in groups banging on some drums.

In Chinatown, firecrackers were set off in Chatham Square, and Columbus Park in a "goverment controlled manner". We don't get to randomly set them off anymore, as we all know the goverment has restricted use on it. But just to answer you, two displays were in Chinatown, NY.
Pics & Vids to follow if anyone is itnerested. I'm involved in one of the many lion dance groups out performing our traditions each and every year.
