RDF = Reality Distortion Field. The term is almost as old as Apple itself.
Mac OS also has virtually nothing to do with Linux. It's built with Darwin, which takes a bunch of components from FreeBSD and Mach (ironically, the lead developer of Mach has been working at Microsoft since long before OS X was even a glimmer in Stevie's eye). Darwin fits under the *nix umbrella but it is not related to Linux in any way, shape, or form.
I'm sure that a lot of people are enthralled with Mac aesthetics, just as they are enthralled with the aesthetics of iPods and iPhones. I've got no argument there, they are truly great designs and Jonathan Ive is a genius. PCs and other geeky gadgets look butt-ugly by comparison - but design involves many tradeoffs and great aesthetics most often means reduced functionality and/or performance and/or added cost.
I want to emphasize, again: Macs are great computers, and if I didn't have more critical things to spend my money on like mortgage payments and car insurance, I wouldn't mind getting one myself just to use Logic Pro. But a Mac simply does not inherently perform better than a PC, especially not with lower specs, and especially not when comparing optimized installs (as opposed to "out of the box", which is irrelevant for producers).
