That sounds more like a rationalization. Thanks for posting it though--it was on Fox News earlier and subsequently disappeared.

There is a different thread for global warming on this forum, quite active, where I am waiting for your input to argue your ass however, despite the wonderful books Al Gore writes, and movie he makes, he is a hypocrite, make no mistake about it. Plus, I personally think he and many other scientists are going in the wrong direction with global warming - I mean, check out Kyoto Protocol - its a complete joke. When will someone with Ph.D and who is "important" and influential actually propose something that will make a difference, not just some lame emissions crap talk that will have an immediate impact, and not like Kyotomoto crap, which HAS NOT slowed down the carbon dioxide emissions, and has no legal strength to enforce even the pathetic 5% reduction rule that can be bought by Carbon Credits, LMAO! Its all a political game, to make people think something positive is happening, while in reality things are getting worse and people themselves for a significant part contibute to the problem.

my ass is quite aware of the political masturbation involved with the global warming debate. what's the point to argue? maybe i'll sneak a peak at said thread.

seriously.

this whole "attack al gore's living arrangements" thing looks like yet another surface area red herring keeping the debate outside of the issues brought forth by the movie. I suppose this is part 2 to the "look how much time al gore spends in an airplane"

that's great that bush uses reclaimed water to irrigate the plants on his estate. and if i lived in the desert, i would as well. congrats on him living in texas to keep his heating bill down as well

we are still talking about a president that flew airforce one 90 miles to speak on environmentalism immediately after the state of the union. i guess the 20% reduction means that he won't fly as far.

Hey--this thread is about Al Gore so none of the commentary in here is inappropriate, IMHO. HOwever, if we were going off on Al in the "other" global warming thread, then perhaps it would be more off-base. In the meantime, let the Gore bashing continue. Fuck you Al!

Clearly Al Gore is just like every other rich person with a huge mansion and a garage full of SUVs. I don't care how many carbon credits he buys and whatever BS reasons he uses to rationalize it, anyone who really deep down was concerned with the environment would not live in a house that consumes so many resources to heat and cool it. Its not necessary and its a waste of resources, its no different than someone who drives alone to his desk job in his Ford Excursion or H2 every day.

But then maybe if Tipper Gore was my wife I'd want a really big house too so I could stay very far away from her.

Someone already posted a bit of a refutation of this smear campaign. A few questions do need to be asked:

1. Who is the Tennessee Policy of Research?

Well, prior to this smear campaign, their website received absolutely no traffic:

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/t...esseepolicy.org

I think it's also interesting that they claim to be nonpartisan, but have nothing but far-right links on their site:

http://www.tennesseepolicy.org/main/page.php?page_id=5

So this no-name, nonpartisan think tank with no traffic gets an immediate posting by Drudge at 5:16 PM on Monday immediately following Gore's academy win, and almost immediately you see the Right Wing Noise Machine engaging in full gear:

http://instapundit.com/archives2/002889.php

http://www.rogerlsimon.com/mt-archi...e_hypocrisy.php
http://wizbangblog.com/2007/02/26/a...nient-truth.php

Coordinated smear attack anyone? Look familiar? Have the markings of a one infamous Smear Boat attack of a Democratic Presidential candidate, by chance?

More to munch on - the President of this think tank group is Drew Johnson, the same fella who comes right outa the wonderful "nonpartisan" American Enterprise Institute:

http://www.exxonsecrets.org/html/orgfactsheet.php?id=9

As well as the wonderful "nonpartisan" National Taxpayers Foundation:

http://www.mediatransparency.org/re...ecipientID=1129

As of Feb. 16th, the Tennessee tax dept. labelled this group "not a legitimate organization" as a result of their deliberate lying on questions about the group's opposition to their state's crackdown on drugs:

http://www.nashvillecitypaper.com/i...m?news_id=54656

And of course we all heard that nonpartisan Rush Limbaugh and slanthead Hannity have their whack at this non-story as well yesterday and today.

Coordinated, and disgusting. One has to ask oneself just how threatening Al Gore really is to these people. He's not even fucking running for the Presidency FFS, yet there's just something about that darn environmental message that just gets underneath their skin. Hmmmmm.....

Gore's response is worth noting:

quote:
1) Gore’s family has taken numerous steps to reduce the carbon footprint of their private residence, including signing up for 100 percent green power through Green Power Switch, installing solar panels, and using compact fluorescent bulbs and other energy saving technology.

2) Gore has had a consistent position of purchasing carbon offsets to offset the family’s carbon footprint — a concept the right-wing fails to understand. Gore’s office explains:

What Mr. Gore has asked is that every family calculate their carbon footprint and try to reduce it as much as possible. Once they have done so, he then advocates that they purchase offsets, as the Gore’s do, to bring their footprint down to zero.

http://thinkprogress.org/2007/02/26...onds-to-drudge/

I am curious as to a valid response by the Right Wing Noise Machine on this.

Oh, one last thing - how did this group get a hold of Gore's electricity bill? Is that not uhh, kinda sorta illegal?

To tell you guys the truth, as much Al Gore is a hypocrite, you can't blame him much, I am not sending sharp criticisms his way - I am actually thanking him wholeheartedly for supporting, well actually, BRINGING TO LIGHT important issues. Why I support him? At least even though all of us are hypocrites in ways on this issue who say they are doing something about the situation, at least Gore has shown the way to many people around the world, a call to action, and I am sure that at least a handful of people are permanently changed by it, moving to a greener living. So Al Gore deserves a credit for that, though living not in environmentally-friendly way, he is still a hypocrite and ignorant like all of us, there's a reason why there's no progress on the issue, and won't be, no matter how many Iconvenient Truths will air on TV it won't change because people dont give a shit, dont want to change, and quite frankly say they support the environment, then turn around litter, damage environment, abuse electricity, nature, etc.

At least Al Gore spent a good portion of his life writing books on important issues, travelling around the world, learning and offering political support to green issues - thats an impact. If every politician was like Al Gore I am sure emissions would be down now. He is only one in an ocean, so to abuse him the way people do here is pathetic, rude, considering the impact and effect Al Gore has achieved to illustrate the environmental problems on the planet. For that, he still remains in my view one of the greatest American and perhaps some of the world's better politicians too.

The damage Al Gore does to the environment is hardly noticable to many other damaging countries, people and corporations. For his effort I forgive him for his hypocrisy and willing to ignore it, because he has done more for the environment than most of people.

EDIT:

People who lash out at Gore in this thread are mostly those who want to feel significant because they themselves have done little for environment and want to look good by shunning down a prominent environment supporter who has done more than most of us together ever will.
