um...so, basically, he fking destroyed it tonight. There was more fun to be had, and more great music played than there has been in a long time, at least for moi. I haven't danced that much in a loooooong time (maybe a bit more in September over the course of an entire day @ Pure Nation). To say he redeemed himself from the first time I saw him, last year, in Dallas, when Chloe Harris blew him out of the water, would be a gross understatement. Such great stuff, and I think this has to be the first time I didn't recognize a single track from a headliner over the course of an entire set.
MSTRKRFT was a bit sketchy. I had 3 complaints:
1. The transitions were a bit suspect, pretty much all around. Granted, the only major mistake was due to some sort of hardware issue (track paused for a moment...probably Live crying for more RAM), but the rest of them would have been almost painfully awkward, had they not been on a massive system, with enough power to cover up nearly any EQing imperfections.
2. The MC they had with them started chanting "Ass, & Titties. Ass & Titties. Ass, & Titties, Ass & Titties" to the beat at one time during the set, and it was so loud & so overblown on the highs that it was both painful to the ear and embarrassing to the brain to hear.
3. The track which he was chanting over is about 7 years old, and I've heard it in countless sets. Had it been thrown in properly, I would have loved it, but it just seemed out of place and desperate. I'll have to dig through my collection & find an ID, because I KNOW I have at least a couple sets Felix did about 6 or 7 years ago that included that very same track.
Once they were done, though, it was absolutely wonderful. I can't even remember one moment during the night when I stopped moving, and everything was well-done, and absolutely delicious. I have no idea how the rest of the crowd took it in, as I was all the way in front, and too enthralled to bother looking around to see the reactions, but sheerly from what I'd seen earlier, and from the noise coming from behind me, I'd say it'd be a fair assumption that I wasn't the only one enjoying it. I can't even begin to describe how happy & relieved I am after tonight, particularly after the disappointment I'd felt from the first/previous time I'd seen him. I was absolutely loving every minute of it, and I can't wait for tomorrow.
Lastly, this is the first time I'd ever seen anybody play @ this venue, and I have to say, it's a gigantic step up from the Meridian. Why, if given the choice, anyone would book an event for that place, instead, I don't know. The Warehouse seems just as big, but with an infinitely better set-up. I can't help but think that the Meridian is just a run-down rock hall that's being borrowed for the night for a DJ, whereas it actually seems like this place was built with such nights in mind.
Anyways, I had a blast, met a bunch of new people, and enjoyed every minute of it. I'm a bit disappointed that I didn't manage to find any TAs, but I hope you guys all had as great of a time as I did.
See the rest of you tomor---tonight .
