If you're still just learning and aren't doing anything really fancy technique wise, stick with 800 mk2s.

If you're going to do mad looping and crazy mashups and all that (or plan to in the future) go for 1000s.

Well I'd do sum tricks, loopin here and there to add some spice to the mix but wouldnt be goin crazy like Eddie Halliwell or anything like that!!

the 1000 mk1's seem so sensitive on the pitch, like the slightest hair movement is needed to go up or down .02% kind of annoying because i have to have the super tight mixes.. are the mk2's and 3's like that?

Well, since you can adjust sensitivity of the jogwheel on the mk3s, even with .02 pitch adjustment, all I do is set the sensitivity all the way to left so that it takes more than a touch for adjusting.
(not a big fan of sensitivity on mk1s. way too sensitive)

Let me make sure i understand this.. by adjusting the sensitivity of the jog wheel, you are also adjusting the sensitivity of the pitch slider? so it takes i alittle more of a nudge on the pitch to move in .02% changes?

no i think he might of mis understood you.
I personally dont think the 1000 is worth so much more money its fair to say its overpriced if it was about £100 or more cheaper i might of considered getting them i have 800's instead.

No. I meant compensating for 0.02 pitch which takes less of a jog for adjusting than at 0.05, so I turn the sensitivity knob for the jog wheel all the way to the left so that it takes more than slightest touch on jog wheel for adjusting.

Honestly, I'd get the 800s and save the rest for a quality mixer.

Ah, well in that case...

I had the opportunity to play on some 1000 mk1's the other day. They ARE damn sensitive! I actually had to set the pitch to .05 like on my 800 mk2s bc .02 was just too delicate for me. It's amazing how much the cdjs have improved over their relatively short lifespan.
