The decline of online dating is a definite result of the availablilty of online forums like MySpace and internet forum boards (like this one). Much like the old AOL and Yahoo chat rooms, you can interact immediately with somebody and it doesn't cost you extra.

The downside to this is that many people aren't normally honest about themselves on these places. They portray themselves as they feel they need to be portrayed to attract the most attention. With dating sites like Match.com, you go through an extensive online interview process. This process usually results in matches that are bit more on spot than with random meetings.

It never gained much acceptance in Australia. Even if I did meet a girl online I doubt I'd ever tell my friends how we met. It's perceived to be an indication of the same sad level of desparation as newspaper personal classifieds.

Probably the most successful on-line date I've ever heard of was far from desirable: guy meets girl, girl likes guy, guy gets horny and in less than 3 months the girl is pregnant and married to the guy

online dating is pretty lame and totally favors women over men...at least for quick hook ups. but its equally difficult for both men and women to meet someone thats relationship material because almost everyone lies so much about themselves in their profiles.
