why don't you ask Microsoft Word?

or better yet: Goolge it! find out how you get more matches ('am' is right out, it is 1st person singular of 'to be')

Realistically - who cares - as long as you make the point - sure there are some jerks that have to have it right - and unless they are your boss... meh - take the lazy route I'd say!

I dunno...
If someone doesn't know the difference between 'A.M.' and 'am', I dunno if I'd want that kinda people supportin' me....

According to Chambers Twentieth Century Dictionary (which I just happened to have handy):

A.M. (also a.m.): ante meridiem, before noon.

So it can be either. Hope that helps.

According to MLA standards, which is what most of U.S. schools use now, am or pm is the proper way to cite ante and post meridian. the (.)'s are implied.

I just skip the A.M. and P.M. thing altogether and use the 24 hour system! It tells you the true time anyway! 18:00 means that 18 hours has elapsed in the day so far. It's like a stopwatch that resets every day at exactly Midnight. I always wonder WHY the A.M. and P.M. format STILL exists if SO many countries use the 24 hour system! I'm forced to convert from 24 hour to A.M/P.M. due to everyone I know (Everyone I know in person is American and was brought up using the A.M./P.M. system) whenever I'm saying the time to someone. I HATE it because I've been using teh 24 hour system for over 6 years so far and NO ONE I know and speak to every day knows it or is WILLING to learn it. A lot of people that I know screw up the time format shortly after Midnight because in their format, it's 12:00 A.M. on Day 2 and they assume that since the numbers haven't gone back down to the lowest value that the day isn't over yet. In other words, they assume that the day begins at 1:00 A.M.! I (and whoever else that uses the 24 hour system), however don't have these kinds of peoblems since, the lowest time values occur at 00:00:00, which is EXACTLY Midnight, ONE second after 23:59:59, the last second of the day.

I remember when I was little and never stayed up late, I liked to look at my digital watch change from 23:59 to 00:00 and witness the last second of the day. Now the time goes by to quickly that I never get the ability to do it anymore..

what a shame.

what a shame.

I just happen to be "lucky" sometimes and when I look at my watch it says "23:59:49" so, I say to myself: Well, I'm just in time to see the end of the day. Good bye, day! "...23:59:58, 23:59:59, 00:00:00, 00:00:01...".
Yea, I know it sounds crazy but, I just LOVE number "rollovers" (like when an odometer is hitting the 100000 Km mark!) for some reason.

What is MLA and why do we (US) still use A.M. and P.M.? I don't use that system because one day is 24 hours long so, why should clocks "reset" every TWELVE hours JUST because of the change between A.M. and P.M.?
