What a sick night... nice seeing everyone; Groundhogs, that was SUCH a nice and pleasant walk we took at 7am Next time when there's no parents to disturb we'll make sure to hang out a bit after the show.
fr0st says it's the best he's heard from him in years, too, and that there was no "pussying around" lol... that he played like he meant it, no fluff electro. |
LOL, we only walked to 9th Ave. We hung out with my parents until 9 after we got home which was interesting.
That BS with the credit cards was fucking annoying. How the hell can places charge that much for drinks and not accept CCs? It was especially annoying because right after I'd paid the $8 ATM fee to take out $150, the bartender took some guy's CC as payment since he had no money and wouldn't use the ATM, but she'd already given him his drinks.
I thought Digweed was on point as usual. I usually have said Ferry is the most consistent DJ that I've seen, but Digweed, with a much more diverse track selection, has been looking to take that title. I think the only time that I've seen him that I haven't been into his set was August of '04 and we've seen him every time he's been to NYC. The crowd kind of blew earlier in the evening, but by the end of the night, we were having a blast. 5-close is usuallly the best time @ Pacha in my experiences there. The 2nd floor was the saving grace earlier in the night, as the floor was pretty annoying. We lost a lot of people and cell phone signal was horrible in there last night, so we got msgs really late after people had switched locations.
The line sucked, but thanks Alisa for coming to get us and bringing us up with you. We'd have been in line for another 30-45 minutes without your help. We had pre-sales that after service charge were $35, yet people paying at the door and people on guestlist were in just as fast as us. Only hard tickets got in first, not will call, which makes no sense. The security check gets worse and worse every time. When Pacha first opened, I was amazed that they weren't doing any security checks, now they're padding the tops of shoes and going through wallets. No wonder it takes so long to get in. Also, why were they sending people upstairs rather than down to coat check. We know where to go, but if you're a new to Pacha, you'd have been lost.
All in all, we had a lot of fun last night, which is saying a lot considering how shitty the day went. By the way, anyone have any contacts for new apartment rentals? We're finally putting the foot down @ over $2800 for a 1 BR in a place where we run AC in January and has had a destroyed elevator for over 4 months.

MAN ALIVE i love digweed!!!!!!!!!!! all i've been thinkin about since i woke up this morning was how much of a blast i had last night. i'm also sad i missed out on the end of the set, after reading what everybody said about it. we had to leave at 5 to get back to philly cause my friend who drove was exhausted, so unfortunately i didn't catch the whole thing. i was dancing like crazy up until the last minute i was there though.... and it DEFINATELY seemed like his set was starting to become even more fantastic!!!!
i did get kinda bored with mstrkrft... i liked a lot of the tracks they played, but it seemed like their set just wasn't ever going anywhere. oh well... can't wait to come back to ny next time

Now I have only seen digweed 10 or so times where as ive seen sasha 20+ times. For the most part digweed has been really consistent where sasha has not. Last time I saw digweed he was really great, but didnt blow me away. Last night he totaly blew me away, he was totaly rocking 3 cdj's he seem to have made some sort of loop cd with basslines, effects, breakdowns etc. It allowed him to give his entire set some sort of conformity through out his set. The breakdown pad/woosh/drum thing he used through out the night was sick sick sick.
Pyro, I would definitely not consider myself musically uneducated. While I may not be a old twilo head or even a new yorker for that matter. I was very much in the rave scene in the mid to late 90's. I was at some of sasha and digweeds first parties in FL. Not to mention djing and collecting records from 97 onwards.
Also lastly on Digweed's set last night, if you were expecting that fluffy progressive electro shit from Digweed last night you definitely would be disappointed, as he played dark and hard. Much like the sound of 2000-2001 except maybe even a bit less melody. He controlled the dance floor, especially since he was using the 3 cdj's. Also the set I heard last night was nothing like his sets that i have been downloading for the past few months, if you were expecting him to play like that, again you would be disappointed.
Also I hate the people at pacha the bartender ripped me off for 2 drinks. Them making you wait in line for no reason other than to create a big line is annoying, they had no need for that especially at digweed. And the fucking bathroom attendants hording all the paper towels and soap. I mean wtf they expect me to pay them to let me wash my hands fuck that. And the security that makes you take off your shoes and feels you up. I miss Arc and centro fly.
Shout outs to the oldschool TA's i saw.

If you've heard one of their recorded sets from the past year, you heard what they sounded like last night. They weren't bad, but nothing unexpected. They were playing that same mix of Buy Now - For Sale from the Transitions set when we walked in.
