I know, but I only linked that because it is similar to Henkes controller and they were both on Doepfer.

Is the mixer really commercially available? I can't seem to find any information on it other than someone on this forum claims to own one.

hrm, i remember they made about 6 of em, gave them to some DJs to test out. those were the first batch that were not for m_nus people. i understood this was the step before commercially selling the thing.

also, i remember showing links to a friend of mine while he was still studying at Full Sail, sound engineering and music production, about a year ago. like 6 months later he msg'd me and said "hey, you know that MIDI mixer you showed me? i took a class with one today".

but, searching around, i can't seem to find any links to buy one. A&H has a CTRL:92 section in their forums. but they don't have the CTRL featured on their site. strange...

Yeah, I've seen the Xone CTRL and its by far one of the raddest looking mixers ever. Speaking of Richie and his dad, anyone seen that really cool documentary on him? Quite insightful to all of that...

Anyway, as to my knowledge, the CTRL wasn't ever made commercially available...but theres somebody on the Bedroom Setup forums who boasts to have one? I dont know

yeah, i saw Slices' Pioneers of Electronic Music vol. 1: Richie Hawtin.

great watch.

anyways, the plan was, to my knowledge, to sell the thing, eventually. perhaps they have backtracked.

in any case, it doesn't hold a candle to the Monodeck II, because, well, nothing does.

As expensive as it would be, I believe you could buy a number cheap midi controllers, take them apart and basically dump them in your own box and with a bit of engineering get it to work as one big application?

Or am I wrong?

It's perfectly possible, although to get a pristine-looking mixer would be hard (but I have limited knowledge, so I could be talking out of my ass).

What I'd like to do (sometime within the next, say, ten years because it's expensive and I'm lazy) is take a Xone:92, a Soundbyte and an EFX and tear them apart and put them into my own box and add some MIDI capabilities. It's more than likely wishful thinking at it's finest, but I think the result would be sexy.

www.midibox.org my friends.

get to reading, and soldering, and you'll soon have a Maven.

ps: jake, the probability of getting that to work, is, well, quite big. however, it would be kinda dumb if you ask me, as you can chain them together with cables already. in other words, it would take hours upon hours to do, you'd need to get some custom casing done, and the final product would be something you could have done in about 2 minutes just by hooking everything up with the proper cabling

if i were to build something myself, it would end up being like a Monodeck, basically. i'd like something like 16 "channels", each complete with a fader, about 6 buttons, and 6 knobs. it'd pwn if it could like have LEDs that read out the levels from Ableton. don't know if thats possible though.

off-topic, kind of.

but HAVE YOU PEOPLE SEEN, the Roland TB-303 with the Devilfish mod and the custom AluCase?

Martin aka DJ Ace from www.acid.ch makes those cases.

After re-reading, I didn't really clarify what I wanted to do. It's a bit (keyword, bit) more than just throwing everything into one box.

- Give each channel it's own independent filter. High-pass and low-pass, I'd eliminate band-pass
- Ditch the crossfader
- Ditch the LFO
- Ditch all aux faders, if Soundbyte can work at the push of one button.
- Ditch both mic channels, Soundbyte (top) and EFX (bottom) will replace them
- Sends/returns for EFX
- Eliminate Delay, Pan, Ring, Fuzz & Zip from EFX. Ditch the EQs. Use different button for Tap button, matching knobs, get rid of the circle for beat cutting and just set the buttons up in a neat fashion. Dunno what I'd do with the jog wheel. I want to keep it, but maybe something smaller
- Add a fifth channel, dedicated to Soundbyte
- Small selection of faders, buttons and knobs on the right dedicated to MIDI

I dunno. For the most part it sounds pointless. I love the Xone and the EFX and I haven't found any other piece of gear in their respective departments that even compares to them, in my opinion. There are just some features of each that I would like to remove because I never, ever use them, or there are some that need to be added (two filters for four channels = gay). Plus I think it'd be fun to tear all of my equipment apart and re-build it to how I think it should've been built in the first place.

*shrug*

Makes me wish I was the one that won that 110,000,000$ jackpot lottery.

I just wanted to buy a couple UC-33e's and a couple CME bitstreams and mess with them. I don't really need such a complicated deck, I just would need a lot of buttons and faders. I realized after getting a lot more knowledge in Ableton, I need more faders and knobs with my Xone:3D.

Thats why I was first interested in building my own controller out of other controllers.
