July 4th, 836 was Pactum Sicardi, designating peace between the Principality of Benevento and the Duchy of Naples. Does that mean Americans aren't really celebrating their independence on the July 4th holiday? May 1st (May Day) has all sorts of different meanings to different people.

In the end a holiday is what you see it as, not what it is seen as by others or by those in the past.

Right, and Pactum Sicardi wasn't assimilated into "Americanism" to make "Americanism" more marketable and easier to 'accept' for the original European colonists. So, no offense, but your logic is absolutely flawed and ridiculous. That analogy doesn't hold any water.

EDIT: Spelling.

LOL, no you fucking idiot. There's nothing "anti-American" or "anti-Christian" about what I just said. Infact, it was something pointed out to me by Christians who actually know what the fuck they're talking about unlike an ignorant fool such as yourself. So you can cram your simplistic jock take on this up your ass dickhead. Now go fuck yourself .

LOL, stop verbalizing and making idiotic assumptions, and stop messing with me all the time and I'll have no reason to treat you harshly. At this point, you deserve it so it doesn't really bother my conscience.

Actually, Christian holidays appearing on old Pagan days were not to make them more palatable or accepted, but to allow them to be celebrated in the first place. "Back in the day," when Christianity first started, they were persecuted severely for their beliefs. They realized that if they chose to celebrate on days already being celebrated by the masses, they would be able to "blend in" much better while still celebrating their own beliefs. The original thought behind celebrating Christian holidays on Pagan ones was exactly the opposite of making them more mainstream, it was to keep Christian holidays as low key as possible.

I think there should be a poll of how many people take the day off for Good Friday vs. how many take the day off for MLK Day.

I don't get MLK Day off either. Sucks!

Now that's a good argument, not that I agree with it. But I hope I didn't rub you the wrong way Neo .

Nah...you didn't. I honestly don't care one way or the other as far as holidays go. I just thought I'd bring in another view on the correlation between past and present holidays.
