I always hear about this but, I NEVER knew WHY do you have to wait until the plane is at a certain height before turning on the CD player? What kind of interference happens if this isn't done and the player is "accidentally" turned on a few seconds early?

OMG, that means i almost crashed a plane last year!!! i put in my earbuds and turned on my cd-player BEFORE the plane was in the air... i don't think they told us not to do that. however, they told us to shut down everything when we were landing. and with all this sept 11 plane business i was just wondering if they changed their policies. thank god, not. i wanna listen to me trance when i'm 10,000 feet up in the air

ROFL!!!

No, no, no!

See, this is a common misinterpretation within the general public, but especially with flight attendants. I find the fear of the exploding television screens to be particularly hilarious.

The bottom line is that any electronic devices that might interfere with radio communications between the airplane and the control tower, or the navigational systems, must be turned off. So that's pretty much cell phones or any other high-powered radio device. Actually, many people claim they know what's bad to leave on during takeoff/landing, but an equal amount of people can testify otherwise.

If you listen to your CD or MD player while takeoff/landing, it won't do a damn thing. If you watch your DVD on your fancy-pants little DVD player, it won't a damn thing. Not even your laptop. That's ridiculous. It's like saying that jumping up and down on a bridge will cause it to collapse. If you try to dial up to your satellite ISP, though, then that's a problem.

Ignorant flight attendants who parade up and down the rows, tearing headphones off of innocents are just that - ignorant. They're merely slaves - and propagators - of the fear that anything that requries electricity must be turned off during takeoff or landing.

That's not to say that if a flight attendant tells you to turn off your CD player you should laugh at them and tell them to screw off. After all, it's their plane, not yours, and you don't want to be causing any trouble for yourself. Plane tickets aren't cheap. Just throw them a nice smile and/or shake your head, while you stop that Trance CD for 15 minutes or so until they say it's "safe."

It takes a lot more to crash a plane than putting on Tiesto.

so i was wondering, how anal are they usually at the airports about music stuff?

caz i got my cd player, my big-ass dj headphones, and a 32-CD case. will they let me carry those into a plane, or should i just forget about it?

also: will they try to disassemble any of my stuff to see if i have tried to hide a bomb or some shit like that in there? caz i remember last year a guy was VERY suspicious about my tiny headphone plugs.

inside the US they do not care, unless you happen to have like 200 CR's with the nice -fake- label WinXP...

internationally, I got bitched at -once- for having a hdd.. told them it was my college work and everything was all set -lucky that they did not check the hdd (40GB of mp3 )
