RU YOU SERIOUS^^^^
What im saying is that Tiesto has a very large fan base that is mostly noobs, who expect him to play all the played out hits at almost every gig. Just go over to Tiesto.com forums, which is a joke and a state certified daycare nowadays, and look for yourself. People are pissed because he didnt play traffic or LCA or some new lame remix of 643 or Lethal Industry. Tiesto spins for a bunch of new, relativley uneducated crowd who expects him to drop the hits at almost every gig. Just go to a tiesto gig and will see the noobs erupt with glee the minute he drops Just Be or LCA as if the those tracks were the paragon of edm productions. he spins for a very neophyte crowd now. which isnt all bad because it keeps the edm wheels spinning, but to us older more learned fans its displeasuring knowing what he once was. read on..
anyways, Its almost like he is stuck, because he is damned if he does and damned if he dont. If he starts playing real sets again he wont be able to sell out concert halls at every tour because the bottom will fall out, at least in relativitly to what he is used to now. Tiesto has built his enormous fanbase of the last few years off of the three dj awards, "Just Be", ISOS4-5, and his Olympic Performance. To me all those albums were very poorly produced and mixed together, but they fostered him legions of new fans and made him more money than he could dream of. whether you like it or not the tiesto machine is big and i dont think anyone, him included, wants to see it come back down to reality, pre 2003 reality, when he was big but not obnoxiously big. but at the sametime with all this popstar image and persona that he has become he has alienated his older fanbase. one only has to go to the Tiesto boards and see that 90 percent of the older, original fans are now gone, and more like me are becoming more irritated by the day.
frankly, Tiesto hasnt done anything for me since WMC05, and the last recorded liveset that was worth a listen was HMH Amsterdam in Dec05(were he really played what he wanted to play). thats pretty piss poor. and i guarantee you if you asked tiesto, he doesnt play what he wants to play, in fact its documented. he has said in multiple interviews its tuff because the newer fans all want to hear the hits, while the older ones want to hear newer fresh music. so i guess its just a matter of what his priorites are. be a real dj who plays new fresh music all the time, or pander to the newer fans who want to her Adaigio 4 Strings at the end of every gig. i think he has chosen the latter and wishes to be some kind of pop icon and not a DJ. if thats what he wants i cant fault him, i guess its just the evolution of things. but when i look at djs like sasha and pvd who both won the award multiple times, who both stay true to the game and have no aspirations to be pop icons. i admire that even tho i dont like their brand of music. to me a real dj wants to rock the crowd every nite and tiesto hasnt done that in quite sometime, and its a shame he used to be able to read a crowd like no other. but the real problem is he used to spin for an experienced crowd of clubbers who loved the music, not a bunch of posers like he spins for now who are just there to witness the 'hot' act.
so no im not saying that if he spins good music(which people like us on TA know) no one will go to see him. what im saying is that if he does that, his inflated following will shrink to pre 2003 levels when he wasnt a DJ god. he would still be big, but not what he is now.... and from what i see thats not what he wants. before 2003 tiesto wasnt putting out two shitty cd comps a year and promoting each one touring the world and doing sets in Dayton Ohio and outer Mongolia. hell, didnt he all but skip Ibiza last year? what self respecting dj does that? that would be like Lebron James electing to sit out the All Star Game. perplexing to say the least. it would be nice if Konijn or Michal Boogerd! chimed in on this discussion. both have great insight on Tijs and are amazingly, still ardent fans. me im about all but finished with tiesto. who cares tho right?!
