The thing is, tryptophan hydroxylase damage is there to stay, so it really just serves to mask problems that will become more apparent in the long term... It's also suspected to cause heart problems because a lot of 5HTP taken orally is converted to serotonin before it gets into the brain, and thus interferes with cardiac function.
If you really wanna prevent the damage MDMA does to your brain, you probably just need to take a lot of antioxidants and not overdo it with your dosing (and don't take pills with meth in them!). |
This has not been scientifically proven. Research has yet to definitively determine whether changes to the brain caused by MDMA use are permanent/irreversible.

Bingo. Take 5-htp at least 3-4 days before you know you're going to pop, and a few days afterwards as well. Vitamin C is good, mint leaves/tea helps, dark chocolate, fruits veggies, gatorade to help restore all your lost electrolytes...
Taking 5-htp an hour before you go clubbing aint gonna do squat. Also invest in some multivitamins as well, they are great. And you can do them daily as well to keep you healthy |
It is indeed possible that I simply have not come across this opinion, but as of yet I have never read or heard someone suggest that taking 5-HTP prior to the event is necessary in order for maximum restorative benefit. Every time I have read the suggestion that 5-HTP should be used before an event it has always been directed at the question 'can using 5-HTP before an event increase one's high?' (which it will not). Do you have any links with respect to what you're saying bud? I'd be interesting in reading into this if there is any merit to it.

Good point. If you wanna minimize neurotoxicity to your brain by MDMA you want to take antioxidants (tea, chocolate, beans, spinach...) and if you wanna go all the way you can take Prozac with it at the same time or a few hours after you pop too. Prozac is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor which blocks the free radicals from damaging your axons and synapses (getting into brain talk here but pretty much serotonin gets dumped into a little space between your neuronal pathways called synapses). |
Not completely, it doesn't block reductions in 5-HIAA which is the major metabolite of serotonin, indicating that it is still neurotoxic, at least to tryptophan hydroxylase (in rodents).
Aside from that, if you take MDMA and fluoxetine (or even 5HTP) you put yourself at risk for serotonin syndrome.
Selegiline is supposed to prevent most of the neurotoxicity as well, but I'm still not convinced that it's safe to take with MDMA at all.
