"these" shootings are rare (contrary to what you may believe about my country) and are the exception, not the rule.

most (around 80%) gun crime in my country is committed by illegaly obtained firearms.

none, if those persons are willing to kill with a knife.

Exactly knives are lethal but most of the time when people have gone crazy with one they've been jumped and disarmed. With guns it's a little bit more difficult.

There is no revolution. The only people who think that are survivalist nutcases in the Midwest building bunkers underneath their houses and training for the next World War 3. I'm sorry Laz but you yanks are paranoid.

lol Ok Essai.

could...... if lets say, the incident in VT happened every month or so... but this is an isolated event, and remember, the USA is nothing like Europe or the Middle East. Our police force is adequate enough to keep the laws in order.

It's not an isolated event though, it seems to happen about two or three times a year some wackjob get p*ssed and decides to blow away a few people. Add to that 1000s of other incidents where family arguements end up with a gun coming into to play or some guy catching his wife in bed with someone else and resorting to grabbing the magnum stashed in the garage.

but even then, you would have to pry my gun out of my dead cold hands...... I know, typical american gung ho attitude from the state of Texas.... but think, if the shit hit, who would you feel safe with, a young naive college kid filled with ideals of Colorful, Every One Loves one another Utopian outlook toward the world. Or someone that can protect your ass when the time comes to stand up and fight for your life?

The American attitude on guns stinks if you ask me. It always amounts to arguements about criminals who are usually not the perpetrators in random shootings like VT. We have no ends of people in the UK who would stand up and fight for their lives but they don't need guns. Leave it too the military if there is a call to arms with the population then there you go. There is nothing tough about guns.

As I said it comes from a paranoid society. Rather then worrying about terrorists I'd be more paranoid about my fat work colleague who's just found out the vending machines ran out of coca cola and cookies.

But they're so effective!!! You have any idea how many gang members you can take on with that?!?!

Next they'll be offering infantry support weapons and rocket launchers on offer down the mini mart. Them dastardly crips and bloods will be no more!

Yes but we don't have people shooting up the local corner shop like OK Corral on a daily basis.

We should loosen gun laws. If everybody in society was potentially strapped, criminals would be scared shitless, and robberies would drop to almost 0%

When you ban guns, only criminals will have them. You are giving them a field day.

i'm not in favor of tighter gun control if it's just going to be something they say...and not enforce.

i think it definitely could help out the situation.

I once thought that too, circumstances are funny things. Admittedly it was a different environment at the time and a very different country, but people are people regardless of where you go. Same said country went from being very prosperous, mostly democratic and with a high standard of living to 8 years later, an utter wreck of a country.

Of course, picking up a weapon(s), hiring mercenaries, buying weapons and shooting people as I did in deciding to defend my property, possessions, families and associates lives along with my own life against that same said government is no guarantee you'll actually win.
There really is no glory in it, no sense of pride, no sense of satisfaction to be had.
And if you lose like I did, then all you're left is a sense you should have just left earlier as there never was going to be the UN to come buffer up the democratic process, no peacekeepers and no one cares if you don't have any oil.
All you get is a hollowness inside, nightmares and bitter.

some kind of balance would be better: Aus for example has legalized gun ownership, but only certain guns, and only to certain people etc--

the question "how the fuck are they getting the guns" is still the most prominent question in these issues surely...?
it's individuals who're doing the killings, but they wouldn't be able to do such killings with a fuckin bread-knife... guns're just too readily available...

Take Canada as an example people.
With our Billion dollar gun registry program it did absolutely NOTHING.
In fact, gun violence (at least here in Toronto) went UP.

The more something is retricted, the more 'in vogue' it's going to be with those that want them and it certainly didn't curtail the flow coming across the border.

If anything should be changed, it's the penalties for using guns in violence crimes to start with.
Responsible people and their guns should not be put in the same catagories as the criminals; they're innocent.
